On the news today I heard the comments from Hillary Clinton regarding President Bush commuting Libby’s sentence, removing the prison time from it, though not going so far as to pardon the man. Hillary, of course, thinks it’s wrong, because it’s President Bush doing it. She said it was “cronyism over the rule of law”. Funny, she didn’t say all that when her husband pardoned many actual criminals, some as favors to her brothers. What her husband did was much worse, as he actually pardoned people who didn’t deserve to be pardoned, including Marc Rich, who never even had to face his accusers in court as he had fled the country.
What President Bush did was right. He held Scooter Libby to a higher standard than anyone ever held President Clinton or his wife who committed perjury many times, not to mention lying to the very people who put them in office live on TV. All Scooter Libby did was repeat something that was already known by the media. Granted he said it to a reporter who didn’t actually know it, but it wasn’t as though he let the cat out of the bag—that honor goes to Armitage, who faced no punishment, except to be outed by the media.
So, who was wrong, President Bush or Hillary Clinton? My vote goes to her and this is the only time I will ever vote for her.
