Letters From North America 09-30-08

Someone, a lot wiser than I claim to be once told me that the best way to cover up a lie…was to tell another one any quickly as possible.

I’m not certain I agree with his advice, but I will say that in today’s race for the office of President of the United States, it certainly is beginning to look that way. Someone wrote me the other day and said that in his opinion the last really ethical presidential race we had was the Truman-Dewey campaign back in 1948. I was still a kid back then, but even then the newspapers had predicated a run away land slide victory for Dewey. You might have seen photos of Truman holding up copies of the papers with the incorrect headlines.

As I recall, at that time, the newspapers and the radio were the only method any of us had to keep up with what was going on in the world around us. I can remember as a small boy looking at a globe in my grandfather’s house and worrying over the physical size of the Soviet Union as compared to our country. I wasn’t aware of the population differences between the two countries.

My, have times have changed. Today in addition to newspapers and radio, we have television, the internet, e-mail, text messaging, blogs, cable and who knows what else. You can turn your television off for a week and for the most part you won’t miss a thing.

The cable television programs seem to repeat all of their news every fifteen minutes or so. It would drive me crazy to talk about the same things time and time again and day after day. It makes me wonder who actually writes all of these scripts. The newscasters take on a zombie like appearance as they repeat their litany over and over again.

We are so starved for content to fill up the quiet spaces in our lives that any and every aspect of any person’s life is subject to criticism and conjecture. Why anyone would want to be famous is totally beyond me. I liked what Paul Newman said about his life. He didn’t want to talk about his movies or Hollywood since that was in his opinion, business. He liked to talk about other things such as racing and his charities. Paul Newman was a smart man.

The so-called talking heads of both political parties are almost rabid to see who can put out the latest morsel of innuendo or gossip about their opponents. I suggest to you that if one of them liked green beans the other would be against it for some unknown reason or another. On the other hand if their opponent didn’t like green beans they would develop an argument to the contrary.

Anything to fill up the white space.

I consider myself to be fairly normal and so are the majority of my friends. I hear the same argument from them as well. This has been one of the worst election years they can remember. There is so much information being thrown at us from all sides it is extremely difficult on a daily basis to study any of it and see what it means much less determine if it is true or false.

The other night I was watching some program and finally turned it off since you got about five minutes worth of programming and about seven minutes worth of commercials. And to make matters worse, most of the commercials were a repeat of something you had already seen. I can only look at so many of these over and over before I want to throw my hands up and go to bed.

Both the political campaigns could do themselves a favor and stick to honest and truthful facts based on their own knowledge and experience. Slamming someone else and doing so in a ten or fifteen second sound bite is not the best method of getting your message across. Taking things out of context or not telling the entire story is also demeaning to those of us who have to sit in our homes each night and try to make sense of it all.

The average American may be tired and disgusted this election season, but that doesn’t mean they are stupid. Try talking up to us, not the other way around.

I'm Proud to be a Texas, Are You? MP Hill

With so much attention presently going to the Presidential race many others have been overlooked, by the media, and in the minds of some Americans as well, I fear.  However, we can’t afford to overlook these other races for they could well help to determine the fate of this country, regardless of who is elected President.

One of the races I’m speaking of is the race for our US Senator.  Presently that job is held by John Cornyn and his opponent is Rick Noriega.

First let me say that I know for sure that John Cornyn is proud of the great state that he represents, as are so very many of his constituents.  However, Rick Noriega, while at the Democratic National Convention in Denver said, “Being a Texan today means always having to say you’re sorry.”  I don’t know about you but that offends me immensely.  I get it that he was at the Democratic Convention where hating President Bush is the thing to do, but does that give him just cause to say something such as that.  Do you as a Texan feel the need to apologize for being from Texas, whether you agree or don’t agree with President Bush?  I know I don’t and I don’t agree with much of what President Bush has, and is doing here lately.  That doesn’t detract from my love for my state or my pride in being a Texan. If Rick Noriega feels compelled to apologize for being from Texas do you honestly think he would stand up and fight for the interests of Americans while in Washington or would he more likely just go along with the rest of those in his party, sympathetically (to them) agreeing with whatever drivel they come up with.

You know what I mean by drivel, right?  Things like amnesty for illegals, which John Cornyn adamantly opposes.  Or how about partial birth abortion which most Americans consider an atrocity except those Democrats who hold office in Washington—the very ones Noriega was apologizing to. Once again John Cornyn stood firmly against this barbaric practice.  Then there is the issue of higher taxes, which Senator Cornyn opposes, but the Democrats hold dear.  Do you really want your Senator voting to raise your taxes?

The list goes on and on though I’m not going to go into all of them here.  Let me add though that when Hurricane Ike was devastating the Texas coast John Cornyn pulled his ads in order to remove the focus from politics and put it where it should be—on helping Texas, and Texans get through this rough time.  He also called for people to send any campaign contributions they had planned to send him to the organizations aiding those who were affected by Hurricane Ike instead.  This alone says that he is a man among men who puts his constituents first.  Have you heard Rick Noriega do the same?  I sure haven’t.

It all boils down to one question for me, and I hope for you as well.  Do we want a man in Washington representing us who is proud to do so and truly cares about the people who sent him there or a man who feels the need to apologize for being from Texas?  Myself, I prefer the man who will fight for us rather than against us, and I will be voting for Senator John Cornyn to continue fighting for the people of this great state.

Letters From North America 09-23-08

I must be weird…

Wait, don’t answer that. I already know the answer.

Last week I was sitting in the lobby at my dentist. His office has two entrances. If you come in the back door, there is a sign that directs you to the lobby by turning either left or right.

I have never given it much thought on which way I should turn. It doesn’t really matter to me one way or the other. Sometimes I go left, sometimes I go right. It depends on how I feel that day. I have no set pattern. Both ways are the same distance so either one of them will get you to the lobby in the same amount of time.

So, while I’m waiting, this lady comes to the reception desk and is clearly frustrated. She wants an answer as to which way she should turn when she enters the offices. Should she go left or should she go right? She says that she is confused and wants to make certain she is doing the proper thing.

The receptionist tells her that it really doesn’t make any difference, but she keeps going on and on about how difficult she finds the rear entrance to be. I want to tell her to just come in the front door and save herself all of the grief. But the better part of me tells me to just keep my mouth shut and let well enough alone. Personally I think the lady has too much time on her hands to be worried over something so trivial.

But then, that’s my opinion.

At the same time, my wife and I went to a funeral last week and as a result endured another of my pet peeves. You probably will think this is funny, but it always seems strange to me to see folks you only see at funerals and you greet each other with “It’s so good to see you again.”

Isn’t there something better you could say besides this? I wish Emily Post were still around so I could ask her. Perhaps she would be able to come up with some sort of substitution. But then again, maybe I’m a little bit strange and worried about things that don’t really matter, much like the lady at the dentist’s office. Does it really matter how we greet people at a funeral? Does this bother anyone else?

I don’t know, but it just sounds odd to me to be ‘happy’ or ‘good’ to see someone you haven’t seen in a long time at a sad occasion. What do you think?

If you can read a note of sarcasm in this week’s effort, you would be astute. I am up to my ears hearing about the election and watching the warring ads for either side blaze across the television screen each evening. The economy is in the dumpster and no one seems to have a clue as to how it might be fixed. You can turn off the television, not pick up your papers and listen to music on the radio rather than the talking heads for a solid week and you won’t miss a thing.

If we go to war with anyone or are about to be attacked, you can always catch up on what’s going on by grabbing one of those so-called ‘magazines’ at the checkout counter at the grocery store. They seem to have all of the latest news including which presidential candidate is really an alien from the planet Zenon. Or better yet, which candidates actually have eight toes on their left foot. Stuff we can all easily check out for ourselves. I’m beginning to believe they have about as much truthful information as what I see on regular television or read in the national papers. And I think I should tell you that I am also beginning to believe that televised wrestling is real.

I mean, come on…I overheard several people at the funeral talking about a match they had seen the other week. They thought it was real. Why would they lie?

Come to think of it the lady at the dentists office had on a ‘Hulk Hogan’ tee shirt. That should have told me something.

I need a vacation. I don’t know about you, but I’m really looking forward to November the fifth. It can’t come too soon to suit me.

N.O.W Does Not Speak For Me. MP Hill

I read today that a supposed women’s group called NOW (National Organization for Women) says they are endorsing Obama/Biden because of Biden’s long-time support for women’s rights.  They cited his pro-choice stance among others.  I’ll admit that he did a great thing with the bill Violence Against Women Act but what about him voting against making it a crime for someone to harm or kill an unborn baby while committing a crime against the mother?  Doesn’t a woman have the right to have her unborn baby protected by the law when she wants her baby?  Or is that just an aspect they wish to overlook?

And, while we are at it, let’s look at the real abortion part of this issue.  It’s not really that he supports choice, it’s that he supports abortion that they like, although Biden draws the line at supporting Partial Birth Abortions like his running mate, he does support abortions.  However he also voted against a parent’s right to be notified if their minor child wants an abortion and he voted against making it a crime for someone to take their minor child across state lines to obtain an abortion where parental notification isn’t required.  However, am I missing something on this?  Isn’t it considered kidnapping if someone takes your minor child across state lines without parental consent?  Unless, I guess, if it is solely for the purpose of killing their unborn baby then it isn’t kidnapping, just aiding a minor in avoiding following the laws of the state where they live.

Of course, although Biden is all for abortion he voted against a bill to ban human cloning.  What is that all about?  How many people in this country are even okay with cloning animals?  And yet he thinks it’s perfectly fine to clone humans.  Something to think about I’d say.

Now, as neither candidate believes in really any limitations on the availability of abortions, let’s look at the majority of Americans, not just the 500,000 women in that one group.  The majority of Americans say, 55% say that it should only be legal under certain circumstances with 17% saying it shouldn’t be legal at all.  Only 28% believe it should be legal for any reason.  Of course when looking at the issue of Partial Birth Abortion as well, 75% believe that particular procedure should be illegal at all times.

I guess that says where this small group of women stands as compared to the rest of this great nation.  The fact that they support two candidates who are on the outs with the rest of the country doesn’t impress me at all.

As for myself, I’ll be casting my vote for the woman running for VP, Governor Palin, and her running mate, Senator McCain as she is the woman I believe will actually stand up for what is right for this country and our children.  She doesn’t think a child should be butchered just because it is inconvenient and neither do a majority of Americans, of which I am one.

There are many other issues we, as women and Americans, should be taking into account when determining who to vote for, and on all of those issues, Sarah Palin is right on.  When the issues most important to you are only the issues that affect you as a person what does that say about you?  I prefer to cast my vote to benefit the country that my children and grandchildren will grow up in to keep it the best it can be.  I’m not willing to sacrifice it in order for more women to be able to shirk the responsibility of a child they don’t want anymore than I would be willing to cast a vote for a candidate who supported letting murderers out of prison because they said they didn’t mean it.  I understand, as I guess these women don’t, that every action we take has consequences, and before we take those actions we should be ready to live with the results.  Doing any less in the essence of being irresponsible and selfish, and this isn’t much different from those who sit in prison for doing what they wanted to do without regard for the consequences.

This is Melissa Pehle-Hill writing for make-a-statement.org.  Have a nice day.

What Is Really Wrong With This Whole Mess? MP Hill

While watching the four o’clock news on CBS today a story caught my attention.  And it is one that we, as a people need to work to address.

I watched as they interviewed some evacuees from Beaumont who are staying in a hotel in Dallas and had just found out that the hotel they are staying in are not working with FEMA.  In other words, the people are responsible for their own bill and will have to wait for FEMA to reimburse them later on.  I understand their anxiety and concern over the devastation that might be waiting for them back at home and over the cost incurred by their having to flee home.  Whether FEMA will reimburse the money or not is likely another consideration on their minds, and yet another understandable one considering we kept hearing how long people had to wait to get help after Hurricane Kattrina due to the debt level of our government.  My sympathy and prayers go to these people along with the hopes that these people actually have something left when they return home.

This country right now is going further and further into debt, and I’m not referring to the debt incurred by the war to protect our citizens.  I’m talking about our government spending billions of our tax dollars taking care of illegal aliens against the wishes of the American people.  The problem those evacuees are facing with FEMA isn’t just a matter of time, it is also a matter of FEMA having the money for them—the American citizens, not the illegals who will also probably be helped by FEMA rather than simply turned over to ICE for deportation.

Is anyone else as sick and tired of the illegals acting as though Texas is still part of Mexico, flying their flags, celebrating Mexican Independence, and going to our government for handouts that we pay for while they continue to show disdain for our laws?  If so, I hope you’ll join me in writing your state and federal legislatures and tell them we have had enough.  Tell them it is time to send them back where they came from and stop rewarding them with our money or we will start rewarding those same legislatures with jobs.

This is Melissa Pehle-Hill writing for make-a-statement.org.  Thank you and have a good day.

A Nation of Fools by Peary Perry 09-11-08

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus…..
And an Easter bunny...
A tooth fairy…
A magic genie in a bottle on the beach somewhere…
A pot of gold at the end of a rainbow…
A government that wants to help your family without costing you anything.

Ok, so I lied about the last one.

What I would like to see is the number of folks in the United States Congress who have either owned a business or who have actually worked for a living before entering into the nebulous world of politics. I’d bet the number is very small.

I cannot believe that any person, particularly those who have actually owned a business would be receptive to some of the proposals being bantered around this current political season. For some folks it seems the word ‘profit’ is actually a four letter word.

Let me explain. If you are in business, whatever business, you must make more than you spend each year or you go out of business. Unless you are the government who always spends more than they earn and borrows to keeps the government going. This is called the ‘national debt’. You knew that.

When you are in business, no matter what size you are, from a mom and pop ice cream store to a giant oil company such as Exxon, you pay taxes. You may not pay any tax on your profits, but you still pay taxes of every other kind. You pay property tax, payroll tax, use tax, sales tax, gasoline tax, unemployment tax, capital gains tax, school tax, Medicare tax …just to name a few. This doesn’t take into consideration all of the taxes you pay if you drive a truck (toll and road usage) or if someone dies and leaves you anything             (inheritance tax). The list goes on and on.

You and I work on a simple concept called a ‘budget’. We try to make certain each month that the money we receive doesn’t exceed the money we owe. Often times that doesn’t work and we are forced to either borrow from our savings, or take out a loan. If either of these events continue for any extended period of time, we might enter into a state of insolvency and could become bankrupt. This means we owe more than we can pay, but you knew this as well.

However there are those in our government who have never had the benefit of this sort of learning experience who actually believe that raising taxes to pay for more non revenue producing programs (give-aways) is actually good for our nation’s economy. Now, there are only two ways of making money that I am aware of. One is to start a business and grow it bit by bit until it becomes profitable and you are in a position to expand and can afford to hire more employees in order to produce more revenue. The other is for someone to purchase a business and either reduces the operational overhead to become more efficient and profitable or to increase sales to produce a rate of return in excess of the price you paid for the purchase of the company.

Programs which do not generate revenue and are supported in total by grants, gifts, loans or governmental subsidies or budgets must ask themselves one simple question. If I didn’t have these funds would I be able to support my staff and operations? The answer is a resounding … ‘no’.

No one is saying that a government should not have programs or support agencies which are of benefit to us all. What I’m saying is that all of these agencies and programs need to have a periodic review for cost effectiveness and definition of purpose. What are they supposed to do and how well are they achieving their mission and purpose?

Have you ever heard of any governmental agency or program (except those instituted during the great depression) that has either reduced their annual budget request or decided that their mission had been accomplished and they were no longer needed?

In Texas it took 136 years to abolish the office of ‘hide inspector’. The office was established in 1871 to prevent cattle theft, but had no authority, no offices, no pay, and no budget. It took a constitutional amendment in 2007 to eliminate the position. How many other agencies or programs exist that are out of date and useless? I suggest that no one even knows how to start.

In 1984, The Grace report (47 volumes, 21,000 pages) was delivered to President Reagan. The cover letter states:
“…if fundamental changes are not made in Federal spending, as compared with the fiscal 1983 deficit of $195 billion, a deficit of over ten times that amount, $2 trillion, is projected for the year 2000, only 17 years from now. In that year, the Federal debt would be $13.0 trillion ($160,000 per current taxpayer) and the interest alone on the debt would be $1.5 trillion per year ($18,500 per year per current taxpayer).
Mr. President, these projections are the result of a joint effort between PPSS and a leading U.S. economic forecasting firm. They are the result of very careful study and drove us to seek out every possible savings opportunity, a "like tireless bloodhounds," as you requested.
In the course of the search by our 36 Task Forces, chaired by 161 top executives from around the country and staffed by over 2,000 volunteers that they provided, we came up with 2,478 separate, distinct, and specific recommendations which are the basis for the carefully projected savings. For practical purposes, these savings, if fully implemented, could virtually eliminate the reported deficit by the 1990's versus an alternative deficit of $10.2 trillion in the decade of the 1990's if no action is taken.
Equally important, the 2,478 cost-cutting, revenue-enhancing recommendations we have made can be achieved without raising taxes, without weakening America's needed defense build-up, and without in any way harming necessary social welfare programs.”
Have you ever heard of any of these recommendations being implemented? I think not. Here we are 24 years later and three administrations, both democratic and republican have been at the helm since this report was delivered. Why ask for advice if you do not intend upon acting on it?
There is certainly enough blame to go around. It can be shared by both major parties without any sense of bias or favoritism. National politics is a contact sport and should not be staffed by participants with thin skin, but it does need to be staffed with people who aren’t afraid to swim against the current and who do not owe their souls to the company store.
Small businesses are the core economic base of this country. If the incentive to being in business is destroyed by higher taxes and more non productive give away programs aimed at curing the ills for all segments of our society, then small businesses will fail.
The example of the ant and the grasshopper story comes to my mind. At some point in time the minority of productive ants cannot afford to support the majority of non-productive grasshoppers. It’s a simple concept. What is amazing is how few in Washington D.C. fail to understand it.

No Dollars For Davis. MP Hiill

I read in today’s paper, Thursday, Sept. 4, that the County Commissioners voted to grant Clint Davis the additional $25,000 pay he wanted. Although two of our commissioners voted no the measure passed. No offense to Clint Davis, but why should he get more money than James Owen after Mr. Owen has served in that position for two terms? Does he have years of experience we don’t know about? After all, he has been a civil attorney for years but up to now hasn’t worked on criminal cases. So, in essence he will be getting on the job training, at a higher rate of pay than our experienced County Attorney who is leaving office. Granted, at this time Clint Davis is working in the District Attorney’s Office though I have not heard of him trying any cases in court. So, at present he is already getting at least some level of training at the taxpayer’s expense. However, I honestly don’t think that six months of training working for a District Attorney which the people of this county loudly said wasn’t doing her job is sufficient to merit him getting $25,000 more than our present CA. On another related matter, I read a complaint from a woman saying that it was wrong for our future District Attorney to ask for an investigator and a warrant officer to be transferred from the Sheriff’s Office to the District Attorney’s office. That will raise his budget while at the same time removing those two expenses from the Sheriff’s budget, and it will aid Scott McKee in better prosecuting cases in this county. As it is in essence a transfer from one department to another it doesn’t raise expenses for the taxpayer like the higher wages for Clint Davis is going to do. So, the outrage should be over the additional county funds being paid to an untried County Attorney rather than to a man who is already planning his strategy to clean up this county and remove the criminals from our streets.

Where Will They Draw The Line. MP Hill

This morning I received a call from a friend of mine, Vera Wolot, telling me about the attack on Governor Sarah Palin perpetrated by Us Magazine and an idea she had that we should go out and buy the copies up and then return them later on, keeping these personal attacks from being spread throughout our community.  After speaking with her in length, we both agreed that this is something we should do all across this great nation.
It isn’t like we would be stopping people from being able to find out what is going on in this country.  After all, what is wrong about attempting to protect a young girl from further public embarrassment?  It’s not as though she is getting an abortion in an attempt to hide what she did or escape the consequences of her actions as have many adults, especially in the political spectrum.  It’s not as though the whole country doesn’t already know that Sarah Palin’s 17year old daughter is pregnant and not yet married.  What this edition of US News is, rather, is a left wing attack on a minor and her mother simply because her mother is on the Republican Presidential ticket.

How low can this group of liberal media people really go?  Now they are attacking children in an attempt to discredit this woman who has nothing else they can attack.  Where will they draw the line?  And when will the American people stand up and tell magazines like this that there is a line between ethical behavior and cruelty and they have crossed it?
I think Vera Wolot is right, friends.  The time is now, and this is a good way to begin sending them the message.  I think we should go out and purchase all of these magazines and then return them later, insuring that this trash is kept off the shelves.  Make sure when you do that you keep them sealed up so that the stores they were purchased from can’t site the copyright laws and refuse to take them back, though.  Or the alternative is to take them out in your yard, or put them in your fireplace, and burn them for the trash that they are.
Then, don’t forget to contact Us Magazine and others like them, with the message that you won’t sit passively by and allow them to attack children for the sake of politics.  This is wrong, there is no question about it, and we, as adults need to stand together and protect the children, and that includes protecting them from unfair attacks in the media.  After all, how would you feel if it was your daughter or your niece?

The Best Of What We Are. MP Hill

Not that long ago I wrote that I would love to see a woman in office but she should be the best of what we are.  I also recently wrote that we should search out people in this country to hold office and represent us as a people in public office.  Now, I feel the need to expand on my meaning of these things.
What did I mean by the best of what we are?  I know that isn’t something that is easy to picture in your mind, especially when talking about the majority of politicians who run for office in this day and age.  So, let me explain my meaning when I said that.
By the best of what we are I mean people like the NY Firemen who rushed into the Towers as they were burning and about to collapse in order to save as many lives as they could, and the policemen who rushed in with them.  There are others, too many to mention in such specific fashion but you know who they are.

They are the teachers who go to work everyday and don’t just teach your children like the rest, but inspire the greatness within; they are the ministers who open an outreach program within their church, expanding it to include other churches or groups in order to reach out to as many who truly need help as they can.  They are the doctors who work long, hard hours taking care of their patients, not for the standard $175 dollars per appointment but for the $30 that their patients can actually afford.  They are the soldiers who risk their lives by going to battle in order to protect our freedom and then go above and beyond to help their comrades make it back home.  They are the men and women who donate their time and hearts to give to the children in need, rather than just sending a check.  They are the mothers who choose to home school their kids because they want to not only teach them everything they need to know, but they want them to know God as well as English, and never have their worth questioned by a school bully or a teacher who doesn’t happen to like them.  They are the people who invent programs such as meals-on-wheels and then follow through with the idea in order to help as many people as they can.  It is the man walking down the street toward a raging fire who then races in and risks his own life to save a child he heard crying within.  They are the kind of people who live every day taking care of handicapped children without a complaint and without finding fault.  They are the kind of people who open their homes to orphans so they won’t be alone anymore.
In short, they are the people who put others before themselves, and who not only want this world to be a better place but actually work toward that end with the actions which they consider to be just part of their mission rather than the act of heroism which it really is.  It is those people who truly have a servant’s heart and love the people more than they love money or material possessions.
These are the people we should seek out to hold office in this great nation.  These kinds of people are what our Founding Fathers were—good strong men who put this nation and our freedom before their own personal interests which cost many of them their lives.
The kind of people I’m talking about are not the kind who seek to hold office because they are drawn by the prestige, power and money they will get in office.  Not the kind of people who spend their time trying to tell you what you want as though you aren’t smart enough to know for yourself.  They are not the kind of people who want the government to run every aspect of your life because they know that more government involvement doesn’t give freedom but takes it away.  They are not the kind of people who will say anything anyone wants to hear in order to get what they want but the kind of people who always stand on their principles, no matter where they are or who tells them to be quiet.
We need the kind of people running for office who understand that although the line “you’ve got to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything” may be a line in a song but it is a line which holds much deep truth.  We need the kind of people in office who love this great nation with a strong and prevailing love and will fight for what is right for the nation as a whole rather than for special interest groups.  We need the kind of people who won’t put their own interests first, nor the wishes of the lobbyists flashing cash and fancy vacations, but instead will put the interests of the people first no matter what challenges they may face.  In short we need the kind of people in office that George Washington would be proud to vote for himself.
We as a nation can not afford to allow any more of these elected officials to do it their way.  Our children’s future is at stake and no matter what the perils this country faces in the future we must know that the people who represent us in Washington, in our state capitols, and in our local governments will do what needs to be done to insure their future is one of freedom and prosperity, not servitude or death.

A Nation of Fools by Peary Perry 09-01-08

This year’s presidential election has got the entire country riled up and monopolizing our daily conversations. McCain threw everyone for a loop when he named a WOMAN to be his vice-presidential choice.

The nerve of him….picking someone the media had no clue about before his announcement. That’s just not fair. That makes the left wingers have to scramble to dig up any and all dirt possible on someone that brings not a breath of fresh air but a hurricane of freshness into an otherwise lame race for the White House.

Let’s see, where to start? Well, for a study in contrast, Google up US Magazine and see what happens….Take a look at the hatchet job they have done on Mrs. Palin compared to the glowing cover story on Barack Obama.

Perhaps it’s the sense of fairness that lives within me that makes my blood boil when I see injustice in action. Take the National Organization of Women….have you ever seen or heard of them making any kind of protest over prostitution in Nevada or strip clubs? Or PETA who will rally and protest over the killing of a whale but says nothing about the abortion of millions of children. No, not a peep.

Now we have a WOMAN, who could, just could …end up being the president of the United States in a few short years and the fire and fury of the media has begun to raise its ugly head.

Points to consider:

The other night when Mrs. Palin made her acceptance speech, there was widespread criticism about ‘she used a prepared speech’. Well, duh….who doesn’t? What politician in recent times hasn’t? Do they point out that Obama’s speeches are written for him as well and that he cannot string three words together without saying   ‘uh, uh…’ if he doesn’t have a teleprompter?

They criticized her hair style and said it looked as if she had been wearing it for twenty years. One comment said there wasn’t any way she could be president since a lack of current hair styles shows how much she is out of touch with fashion styles. Give me a break. Since when does the cut of your hair have anything whatsoever with your administrative abilities?

As long as I can remember the Democrats have been against ‘the little woman at home’ concept. They have preached for years that a woman can work and have a home life at the same time. The idea of a woman staying at home and taking care of her family while she washes, cooks and cleans has been a standard plank in their ‘equality’ platform. Now, they are rising up to throw stones at Ms. Palin by saying since she has 5 children, her place is at home taking care of her husband and those little babies. As I recall Nancy Pelosi also have 5 kids…..no one said anything about them when she got elected speaker of the house.

Can you believe Mrs. Palin has a pregnant unmarried daughter? Oh, the shame of it all. Several pundits have said that if Mrs. Palin was more concerned over her family instead of politics, she might have been able to prevent this from occurring. I find comments such as these to been offensive coming from a culture that revels in unmarried couples having multiple children before they ever consider marriage. Think Hollywood. The last I looked I recall a certain segment of the Democratic base had an unwed mother rate of about 60%...I haven’t heard the media chastise anyone over this bit of reality.

Several commentaries said the attention on Mrs. Palin’s unmarried, yet pregnant, daughter was bound to place a lot of stress on her and could have long term damaging effects to this young lady. Maybe I’m wrong, but I seem to recall a Democratic President several years ago, who had an affair with an intern in the White House that resulted in an impeachment trial. I must be getting old and forgetful, but I can’t recall anyone alleging that this had any negative effects upon the President’s daughter. I’ll bet you can’t either.

Oh, I forgot…..any ‘personal’ comments about any Democrats are ‘off limits’ since this is their private life. Kind of like the fact that the liberal news media knew about the John Edwards affair but choose not to disclose it since it was their own personal and private business. Wasn’t he in the race for the Democratic nomination? Silly me, what was I thinking to imagine I had a right to know about his ‘personal’ life.

Last but not least are the comments being circulated about Sarah’s husbands DUI arrest over twenty years ago. He was twenty two years old at the time and had not married Sarah. Of course this item is getting lots of news coverage, whereas the revelation that Obama made concerning his dope days has not raised a ripple. “Obama was a young man at the time” one of the liberal apologists said. I don’t think Mr. Palin’s DUI resulted in anyone getting hurt or dying, but the same cannot be said for the darling of the Democratic Party…Senator Ted Kennedy Oops, there goes that private thing again.. I keep forgetting that everything they do is personal and private and everything a Republican does is fodder for the cannons.

Call me crazy, but don’t forget to call me for dinner….I need to just ride this out and go with the flow. Time will take care of all of this.

I hope this is true……
