A Nation of Fools by Peary Perry 10-29-08

Over thirty years ago, I took part in a security training program outside of Washington, D.C. During the ten days or so that I was there, I met a number of federal agents who told me a number of stories, most of which would verge on the brink of unbelievable. One of these stories concerned President Kennedy and a decision he was said to have made one evening while sailing around D.C. on the Presidential yacht. According to one of the agents, President Kennedy had consulted with a number of his closest friends and had decided to leak our atomic secrets to the Soviets so there would be a mutual respect for each other and, in his opinion, reduce the threat of a nuclear war.

Now, in all honesty, I have no clue as to the truthfulness of this statement, but at the same time I have no reason to think the men telling me this were lying to me. I just don’t know.

What I do know is this, last week; someone who reads my columns sent me an e-mail and advised me to order a book called “Keynes at Harvard”. I found it on Amazon and must admit to you it is one of those books you will find hard to put down once you get started.

It is a handbook on socialism in this country. It was written in 1960.

The book explains how an economist named John Maynard Keynes got his socialist theories to be the order of the day at Harvard University. George Will (columnist and commentator) recently wrote “There are more Marxists in the Harvard faculty than there are in all of Europe.” The book goes on to state that the center point of the socialistic movement was the law school at Harvard.


Keynes was convinced that the government was the only entity strong enough to solve the ills of any country. His beliefs from supporters in the Harvard economic department led to statements such as this:  “The problems are intricate and cannot be fully understood even by the intelligent minority. On these technical matters he (the citizens) will have to accept the word of the experts, as he does on many other public issues. Not many laymen understand the release of atomic energy or radar or the functioning of our monetary system.”

Keynes believed that the government should do all and be all for the country to survive. He followed the example in the Soviet Union after the revolution. There were two distinct classes, the elite (including the government leaders) and the remaining citizens.

Keynes defines his beliefs by saying that “The average man is very busy earning a living in his own particular line. He cannot spare a great deal of effort outside of his own business. Such matters outside of his own business must come to him in clear and uncomplicated language.”

In other words, we (the average citizen) are too stupid to be able to think for ourselves. We must allow the government to do it for us. Keynes did not think individuals should be allowed to own or operate businesses of their own and that private enterprise was to be destroyed. His theory was that the countries businesses should be placed in the hands of a select few and that monopolies should be allowed to run unfettered. He also believed that individual savings and investments be discouraged. His admiration of Lenin’s policies can be seen in this statement… "Lenin is said to have declared that the best way to destroy the Capitalist System was to debauch the currency. By a continuing process of inflation, governments can confiscate, secretly and unobserved, an important part of the wealth of their citizens." ... "Lenin was certainly right. There is no subtler, no surer means of overturning the existing basis of society than to debauch the currency. The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction, and does it in a manner which not one man in a million is able to diagnose." Try pumping in over a trillion dollars into a economy and we’ll see in a few short months how inflation works. Oh, I forgot the rate was cut to 1% today….makes you wonder what happens when it goes to zero, doesn’t it?

Small wonder that Keynes had the support of many of the large foundations in this country such as the Ford and Carnegie Foundations. Keynes was in favor of total government control over all of the citizens, one world currency as well as one world bank. Keynes hardly lived in this reduced lifestyle; he was made a Baron and a member of the House of Lords in England. He could hardly have been called ‘one of the common folk’.  

Now, how does an obscure book published forty eight years ago have anything to do with the politics of today?

Well, let’s see… Barack Obama was a student and a product of the teaching at Harvard Law School. We don’t know what economics courses he may have taken since he won’t release his transcripts or grades or any of his written papers. Did any of Keynes theories appeal to him and did he adopt those philosophies? Obama believes in a ‘world view’ of government. In his speech in Germany he emphasized that we (The United States) need to consult more with other countries before we make decisions. Obama is clearly on the record of ‘spreading the wealth’ from those who have it to those who don’t.

Success will be penalized in his administration. He has stated that he wants government to do more in our personal lives than it does now.  

Are monopolies in the not too distant future? How many banks will we end up with in this country after the bailout debacle is finished….less than a year ago, I’d be wiling to bet. How many automobile makers will survive?

Reduction of savings and investments on a personal basis? Well, just Google…401K Democrats …and see what is going on as we speak. Media bias of the political campaign? We all know the answer to that one. Let’s see if the Los Angeles Times ever releases the video tape of Obama at a pro-PLO banquet. Don’t hold your breath. We’ll get what they want us to have, nothing more, and nothing less. The same goes for universal health care and other so-called social programs. The sad thing is that a large portion of our citizens are so mad at George Bush they will vote for anyone but a Republican.

How can this happen without our knowledge? Well, you might check out this week’s edition of Time magazine. They have an article in this edition about ‘all of us being Keynesians.” Very subtle, but when was the last time you ever heard this name?

I for one don’t believe the polls and I don’t think the battle is lost. I think we need to be informed and alert those around us as to what is happening and what the future could hold for the citizens of this nation.

Keynes was right about one thing, the average citizen is too tired when he or she comes home to stay informed…but trust me it is not the place of the government to make those decisions or to keep us informed. It is our place to tell others who are being led like lambs to the slaughter. This is simply too great of a country for us to allow it to be thrown away because someone can make a decent speech. There must be more to our resolve than this.

Let me begin by voicing my opinion of the media coverage of the election up to this point.  ENOUGH!  If I hear the terms "Battleground State" or "Swing State" another time, I fear for anyone within my reach (family and friends excluded).  These are a couple of terms which have been completely over used by the media mutts.  Doesn't it make sense that ALL  STATES are in fact "Battleground States"?  If so, then doesn't it also make sense that if all the votes have been cast; and most of the results from the majority of the states are known;  and neither candidate has a clear victory at hand;  and  neither has enough electoral votes to claim victory; wouldn't it be possible for several or perhaps all of the remaining states to be "Swing States"?  Now for those of you residing in the "People's Republic of San Francisco" the remaining states would be able to "Swing" the election toward one particular candidate.  Ah, but not so.  Our idiot mainstream media, no, let me rephrase that, ALL  OF  OUR  MEDIA have already decided which states are "Swing States" just as they have decided which states are "Battleground States."  Just as they have decided who should be our next President.
 
So if the thought of the news media, and particularly the far left socialist leaning mainstream media, choosing our next President doesn't bother you then read no further.  The brutal truth is that NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Time Magazine and several more, are all in the tank for Barack Hussein Obama and have all attempted to do a real hatchet job on Sarah Palin.  Have they succeeded?  We will find out next Tuesday.
 
I believe it was yesterday when I had my TV on FOX News and it was in the time slot in the afternoon when Shepard Smith was hosting the program.  He had a telephone interview with Joe Wurzelbacher (to clarify this for the Freedom Loving Residents of the Socialist Workers State of Massachusetts, this would be Joe the Plumber").  Let me say at this point that I know several good people who live in the State of Massachusetts, however the majority of the voters in that state have chosen "Fat Teddy", John Kerry, and Barney Frank as elected officials so the sanity of the majority of the Massachusetts voters is definitely in question.
 
Anyway the program showed a short film clip in which Joe the Plumber was speaking with a Jewish voter who stated that he thought that the election of Obama would mean the death of Israel.  To this, Joe was in agreement.  But Shepard Smith took issue with this and began to question Joe upon what information he was basing his opinion.  Joe told him that he thought that Obama, by making the statement that he would meet WITHOUT PRE-CONDITIONS, with  Iranian President Ahmadinejad told him what he needed to know.  Of course "Shep" couldn't let this go and kept questioning Joe about his experience and knowledge of foreign policy affairs and basically making a pathetic attempt at belittling Joe.  Joe in good fashion told "Shep" that he certainly was not a policy expert and probably knew enough about it to be dangerous.  But he said that this was the way he felt and he agreed with the Jewish man who originally made the statement.  Well, at this point let me make this perfectly clear, I also believe that a President Obama, with the full support of  Louis Farrakhan I might add, would not be as friendly to Israel as would be necessary.  Once again, this week, Shepard Smith's true colors came to light and they were those of a typical arrogant media mutt.  Hey Shep!  I agree with the voter and Joe.
 
I have a plan.  Glenn Beck has already made the move from CNN to FOX News.  My offer is simple;  CNN gives FOX News Lou Dobbs and in return FOX News will give CNN Shepard Smith,  Mort Kondracke,  Geraldine Ferraro and another mutt to be named in the future.  Is that a deal or what?
 
Regarding a Barack Hussein Obama link to Socialism.  Here are a few facts which I picked up regarding Socialism as preached by Marx and Engals.  (For those of you laboring in the Workers Re-Training Gulag of Austin that would be Karl and not Graucho, Chico, Harpo, or Zeppo)   The founder of Modern Socialism demanded a few things:
 
Heavy Income Tax (sound familiar?)
Abolishment of Inheritance Rights (sound familiar?)
Government control of Transportation and Communications (Fairness Doctrine?)
Free Education for ALL people (If you still believe that education is free, check your tax bill)

The definition of SOCIALISM in my Webster's Dictionary is:  A theory by which the means of production and distribution are owned by society rather than individuals.
 
It should be somewhat apparent that Barack Hussein Obama's ideas for the re-distribution of income (you notice I said income, not wealth) and his universal health care ideas seem to indicate that private ownership of ANYTHING is not in his plans.  At least for us.  It seems as if his criteria for determining wealth is somewhat flexible also.  He started out with $250,000 being the low end.  Then later on he made the statement that $200,000 would be his minimum for an individual and a couple of days back his trained monkey, Joe Obiden, threw out the figure of $150,000.  It seems to me as if the Democrats/Socialists have a bit of a problem with their math.
 
At first, Barack Hussein Obama stated that 95% of all Americans would receive a tax break.  Then later on it was 95% of Working Americans would receive a tax break and the last figure I heard was 95% of American Families would receive his tax break.  Could it be that the world's most articulate and intelligent human has a deficiency in mathematics.  I am pretty sure that his not so well trained monkey, Obiden, is a bit deficient in this area.
 
But for a moment back to the media mutts.  They are giving Barack Hussein Obama a complete pass on his associations with Louis Farrakhan;  Reverend Jeremiah Wright;  Tony Rezko;  William Ayers;  Bernadine Dohrn; ACORN and now the latest is the L.A. Times' refusal to release a film clip they have which shows the worlds smartest and most articulate human at some type of going away bash for some Muslim supporter of Yasser Arafat, I'm sorry but I don't recall this mutt's name.
 
I saw one of the Democrat/Socialist hacks a couple of days back saying that no one had actually associated Barack Hussein Obama with the ACORN group.  Where has this idiot hack been.  There has been so much evidence of Obama's ACORN connections that it is absolutely ridiculous for someone to claim that there is not the slightest connection between Obama and ACORN.  Here is a small example of the fine work done by ACORN:
 
According to the National Review, Marion County, Indiana's (Indianapolis) registration now stands at 105% of the voting-age population. But of course I am sure that the two mathematical wizards, Obama and Obiden would have a perfectly logical answer to this mathematical oddity.
 
I watched yesterday a film clip of Geraldo Rivera telling Sean Hannity that he and Yasser Arafat were friends, and did Hannity think that this made Geraldo a terrorist?  When pinned down, however, Geraldo changed it to say that Arafat was "friendly" toward him.  Looks like ol' Geraldo was about to tell a small lie of his own.  Hey! Does this make him eligible to serve in an Obama  administration.  Seems like lying is one of the things the Democrats/Socialists do best.
 
Last week, my wife and I attended a Republican luncheon and the speaker was out State Representative who is a conservative Republican.  He quoted a few figures which is math that I can understand.  A few years back, the Republicans became a majority in the Texas State House of Representatives and Senate.  When they took over there was a $10 billion dollar deficit.  Now we have a surplus of $8 billion dollars;   There are presently more Fortune 500 companies based in Texas than any other state;   Workers Comp has been reformed in the State of Texas;  Our State Government has reformed the law suit system;  Huge increase in the number of Doctors applying to be licensed in the State of Texas;  There are presently  1,142  NEW Republican elected officials in the state;   650,000 new jobs.   He brought out the fact that the State of California presently has a $15 billion dollar deficit.  He also gave us this figure regarding the Ohio primary elections:
 
39% of the ballots cast in the Ohio primary were FRAUDULENT.
 
You see, ACORN is on the job.
 
Folks, the time is rapidly approaching.  If you have not yet voted, please get everyone you know to go vote for John McCain/Sarah Palin.  What Obama has in store for us is not in our best interests and I have no desire to live under a Socialist rule.  In spite of what Obiden says, I can see a real parallel in Barack Hussein Obama and the Socialist doctrine of Karl Marx.  This is the most important Presidential election in my lifetime and yours too, I'll bet.

    Please let us not forget to remember all of our military men and women, particularly those serving in combat zones.  Let us remember to remind others that our military will be among the first casualties in an Obama administration.  We have all seen the e-mail regarding Obama's not wanting any uniformed police officers near him during photo ops.  So why should we believe that he is going to have any regard at all for any man or woman who is in either the military or public safety?  Looks like he puts these people in with the plumbers.  So be it.  I had rather be associated with a hard working plumber than I had with political mutts.
     
    And remember, the Democrats/Socialists use the scare tactic of trying to get us to imagine what it would be like to have a President Sarah Palin should anything happen to John McCain. OK, I have this reply, just imagine what it would be like to have a President Joseph Biden, or for that matter a Vice President Joe Biden, or a Joe Biden in any position of authority at any time.
     
    So with that thought in mind, let us remember the people of the State of Delaware in our prayers.  They have had to live with this bozo for quite a few years.  Then again, they keep re-electing him so keeping them in your prayers is optional.
     
    I am pretty sure I saw a few stray Xenos this morning.  So I am going to get my Phobing clothes on and see if I can't locate the odd one or so.

Tracking the Bailout ~ Transparency? D. Hill

As most of my regular readers know, I was dead set against the Bailout of our Financial Institutions.  I also firmly believe that this was a major step towards Socialism.  Regardless of my feelings or the feelings of most of the citizens of the United States, our government went ahead and instituted the 700 Billion dollar move towards Socialism.  One of the things they (our government) promised was transparency.  Well, let's talk about this for a minute. 

I found an article today that talks about the first of many "Deals" stemming from this Bailout.  As I expected, the details are kept secret.  I was under the impression that Transparency meant we would be able to see what was happening as the "Deals" were struck.  Apparently, I was wrong, the dictionary I use must be different from the one they use. Go Figure!

I found a website dedicated to watching the money set aside by the Bailout Legislation. www.bailoutsleuth.com   Here is the beginning of the article I mentioned at the beginning:

The Treasury Department has hired two big accounting firms to help keep tabs on the government's financial-industry rescue program, and once again certain basic elements of the deals are shrouded in secrecy.


PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP will provide internal controls for the government's $700 billion bailout fund. Ernst & Young will provide general accounting and consulting. The Treasury Department said the first phase of the three-year contracts will be worth $191,469.27 and $492.006.95, respectively.

That sort of specific detail is lacking in the agreements themselves. The PricewaterhouseCoopers contract released by the Treasury Department on Tuesday has blacked-out text in the area covering the firm's bid, and also conceals the name of the PricewaterhouseCoopers partner who signed the deal.   Continue reading

6 Million to prosecute Illegal Aliens

In an article written by Roy Beck of Numbers USA, he compares the cost of prosecuting and deporting the Illegal Immigrants captured during the Postville IA meat packing plant raid earlier this year.  To me the 6 million dollars reportedly spent to handle the situation seems a bit high but it would not surprise me if it were accurate.  The article goes on to compare the savings to the American Taxpayer and the overall benefit of the capture and deportation of these unwanted guest.

Anti-enforcement entities are crowing about estimates that the raid on the Postville, Iowa meatpacking plant cost more than $6 million thus far to deal with only 389 suspected illegal aliens. And that does sound like a lot. But my rough calculations suggest that if all 389 are deported, taxpayers are likely to save nearly $8 million in the first year alone.

Iowa newspapers' keen interest in the cost is an appropriate inquiry, although the tone of the coverage seems to suggest that $6 million is an outrageously high price for such a small number of illegal aliens out of the estimated 7 million who are working illegally in the United States.

Of course, high-profile enforcement actions like this one are not designed primarily to reap direct financial benefits. Their main purpose is to frighten thousands of other employers from violating immigration laws.


And their second purpose is to make seeking illegal jobs less attractive for foreign nationals.

For laws to be massively obeyed, there has to be a reasonable chance that people (or corporations) may pay dearly for breaking the law. Rarely does the prosecution of any kind of corporate wrong-doing produce more direct society financial benefit than the cost of the prosecution. The point is to whip other corporations into lawful activity.

Steven J. Allen's definition of a conservative

I am often asked what I mean by “a conservative.”

It's difficult to define membership in a group that makes up over half the adult population of the United States.  But here's my best effort. 

* A conservative believes in the motto quoted by Henry David Thoreau, “That government is best which governs least.” A conservative's vision of government was put forth by Thomas Jefferson: “a wise and frugal government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another [and] shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement.”

* A conservative believes that individuals and families are the basic units of society, and that anti-family policies (such as the current ultra-high tax rates on working families) should be ended.

* A conservative believes that, however unattainable the goal of moral perfection, people should strive to put morality and their families ahead of other concerns in their lives.

* A conservative has compassion for the poor and opposes policies, such as those based on socialism and on opposition to new technology, that cause or extend poverty.

* A conservative believes in the free trade of goods and services, but rejects the mercantilism (“welfare for corporations”) that masquerades as free trade.

* A conservative believes that great weight should be put on the wisdom expressed in the founding documents of Western civilization and American society, including the Bible, the Declaration of Independence, and the U.S. Constitution with its Bill of Rights. 

* A conservative believes in the Rule of Law – that a law means what it says, as the language of the law was understood when the law was written.  A conservative rejects the idea of a Living Constitution, under which lawyers and judges can change laws by undemocratic means.  If judges are allowed such power, Jefferson noted, the U.S. Constitution “is a mere thing of wax in the hands of the Judiciary, which they may twist and shape into any form they please.”

* A conservative believes that public policy should encourage advancement based on ability and achievement, not on membership in an actual or concocted group.

* A conservative understands that “the public interest,” as determined by governing elites, is not the public interest – that, not surprisingly, it represents the interests of the governing elites.

* A conservative has respect for those who have made sacrifices in the cause of freedom, and for those who put their lives in peril to protect others. A conservative has respect for people who work hard and play by the rules. 

* A conservative believes that military force should be used with care, in limited circumstances in which the cause of freedom and the just interests of the United States are at stake. A conservative believes that government officials should not put American servicemen and servicewomen in harm's way without giving them a clearly-defined mission and the resources they need for victory.

* A conservative believes that the United States should avoid entangling alliances and the trappings of empire.

* A conservative has compassion for the oppressed and seeks peacefully to free them from oppression.

* A conservative believes that people have the right to protect their families and businesses from criminals.

* A conservative sees the United States of America as a special place because of its history as a beacon for freedom-loving people from around the world.  A conservative believes the United States is blessed by the presence of people from countless nations and cultures when those people are hard-working, law-abiding, and eager to interact with other Americans through a shared language.

* A conservative believes that people should be treated fairly – that, in the words of Martin Luther King Jr., they should “not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character” – and that racism, anti-Semitism, ridicule of groups such as Southerners and rural people, hatred of Christians (or particular groups of Christians), and other forms of bigotry are unacceptable.  A conservative rejects the false classification of human beings into discrete groups called “races,” whether such racism is motivated by fantasies of racial supremacy or of permanent racial grievance.  A conservative considers policies based on “race” to be unethical and immoral. 

* A conservative rejects the worship of government power that is reflected in such fascist ideologies as communism, national socialism (Nazism), and theocracy.  A conservative believes that communists, national socialists, theocrats, racists, and other advocates of oppression and hate should be ostracized. 

* A conservative abhors violence and rejects the initiation of force in settling political disputes.

* A conservative is part of the majority that voted against Clintonism (corruption in the name of liberalism) in 1992 and 1996.  A conservative is one of those who, in the congressional elections of 1994-2004, voted Republican in the belief that they were voting against Big Government corruption.

* A conservative identifies with the political movement led in the 1960s by supporters of Barry Goldwater, in the late '70s and in the '80s by Ronald Reagan and his supporters, and in the early '90s by the framers of and advocates for the Contract with America.


A person does not have to adhere to a strict set of political principles to meet my definition of conservative.   One of the characteristics I associate with true conservatives is that they believe in free argument and debate, not unthinking uniformity of opinion. 

“Political correctness” is for liberals.  Indeed, the term “politically correct” was first used, without irony, by Marxists.

No two people agree on everything, and no two conservatives agree on 100% of the issues.  As a political movement, conservatism is broad enough to include several types of person: 

* Libertarian conservatives seek to reduce the size, cost, and intrusiveness of government.  They say to bureaucrats and politicians: “Leave us alone!” and “Mind your own business!”  Libertarians proudly refuse to recognize political reality.  But, within the ranks of conservatives, libertarianism serves a necessary and critical function: it is the brake in the train of conservatism.  By libertarian conservative standards, every proposal must be measured as to whether it will ultimately strengthen or weaken Big Government.  Ronald Reagan referred to libertarianism as “the heart of conservatism.” 

* Traditionalist conservatives (including “religious conservatives”) seek to preserve traditional values and traditional culture, and emphasize the importance of morality and religious faith.  Most traditionalist conservatives are regularly involved in religious activities.  Often, traditionalist conservatives are Southern Baptists, or are among the Catholics who were most favorable to Pope John Paul II, or are orthodox Jews, or Mormons, or belong to some other religious denomination that emphasizes tradition and family life.  But they can be of any religious view.  Traditionalist conservatives stand in opposition to secularist extremists, who seek to erase every public reference to religious views other than their own, and to Radical Religious Left organizations such as the National Council of Churches, which seek to use the power of government to impose their religious views on society.

* Neoconservatives are often former liberals and democratic socialists who have acknowledged the failure of liberalism and socialism to solve society’s problems, in the sense of the old saying, “A neoconservative is a liberal who's been mugged.”  Most older neoconservatives are former members of the branch of liberalism and democratic socialism associated with New York intellectuals; they rebelled against policies that condoned or promoted Communism.  Neoconservatives tend to emphasize scientific analysis of the success or failure of government programs – for example, by statistical studies of whether “welfare,” “affirmative action” discrimination, broad restrictions on gun ownership, and other policies actually improve the lives of the people they are supposed to help.  They believe the U.S. should play a leading role in world affairs, especially in defense of beleaguered democracies such as Israel.  They favor strong action to promote the spread of democracy in the world, noting that constitutional democracies rarely – or, by some measures, never – fight wars against each other.  (In recent years, many critics of the Bush Administration have used the term “neoconservative” to refer to anyone who supported the Iraq War and related endeavors.)

* Populist conservatives believe that grassroots citizens, not the political or cultural elite, should have the most influence in the halls of power. This view was reflected in William F. Buckley Jr.'s remark that he would rather be governed by the first 300 people in the Boston telephone book than by the faculty at Harvard.  Populist conservatives, who usually have backgrounds in poor and middle class families, are among the most avid students of public affairs, as is reflected in the public response to populist-oriented media such as Fox News and political talk radio.  Populist conservatives are especially skeptical of policies favored by pseudo-intellectuals and by elites in Washington and Hollywood.

* Dynamic conservatives believe that economic growth and economic opportunity (the chance to improve one’s station in life) are keys to solving many of society's problems. Associated with supply-side economics, they emphasize the need to cut taxes, and they emphasize the liberating aspects of new technology such as computers and the Internet.  Though this group is small compared to other types of conservatives, it is highly influential because of its ability to engage in the rapid spread of information and ideas.

There are people who aren't so deeply involved in politics that they can identify with one of the groups listed above. They just know what they believe is right, and they think conservatives best represent that point of view.

On many issues, from military intervention to immigration policy, there is disagreement among conservatives. That's why it is important that conservatives argue and debate the issues among themselves, not just with our adversaries. 

Ultimately, a conservative is someone who fits reasonably well into one or more of these groups, and who feels comfortable working in coalition with others who are called conservative.

A Nation of Fools by Peary Perry 10-23-08

In November of 1989, I was in Germany when the Berlin Wall started to come down. My friend and I drove to the border where we could see East Germany. Parts of the wall were already destroyed and I brought back two bricks. Later that evening, my friend took me to dinner at his parents’ house where I met his sister and brother-in-law. His brother worked for Volkswagen in Germany and seemed a affable sort of fellow. During the dinner, the conversation turned to politics and it was apparent very early that he believed in a socialistic society. His concept was that no one should earn or receive more than 3,500 marks (before the Euro) per month, no matter what their job was or what they did for a living.

Having been in business for myself virtually all of my adult life, I took exception to this idea and told him it would destroy the concept of entrepreneurialism in any economy. He strongly disagreed and said that his plan would give everyone the same advantages and would be fair to all. This would eliminate class distinctions.

Then I asked him if he thought it would be fair for someone, like a doctor to have gone to school for eight or ten years or a attorney, should they be limited to only 3,500 marks per month as well?

“Yes, they should” was his answer and he was sincere.

Then I asked why anyone would want to go to school, or work twelve and fifteen hours a day to get a business up and going if their income was going to be the same as someone who didn’t have an education or who didn’t want to work. Who would want to do this?

He said that everyone would want to do so. If you had a good work ethic, then you wouldn’t mind working harder so that others could have a better lifestyle. It was your patriotic duty to do so.

I sat there in amazement at one of the most absurd things I have heard come out of anyone’s mouth in all of my years. The sad thing was he wasn’t kidding. He was dead serious.



These past few weeks have been tough on all of us. I have been hearing people say they are disgusted and want to quit, that their vote isn’t going to count, and that they believe our American way of life is over and done for.

We cannot afford to quit. We must not allow socialism to take over our country. We cannot allow the individual spirit of the entrepreneur to be destroyed. We have heard from the Democrats and Obama and he truly believes in ‘spreading the wealth’ from those who have it to those who don’t. If this isn’t the same philosophy as what the guy in Germany was telling me, I don’t know what is.



The current proposition to give 95% of Americans a tax break is only so much bull. First off, we have about 30% or more in this country who don’t pay any tax except for payroll tax. Now, the Democrats want to issue a refund for even a part of this. So, the Social Security system, which is already on the verge of a meltdown, is now going to have even more revenue taken away from it if the Democrats have their way. What and how will the difference be made up? I’ll bet you can guess.

Let me tell you folks, I’ve been in business for over forty years. Even if, I repeat even if, the business or corporation pays zero corporate income tax; the corporation pays a lot of other tax in various forms. You pay payroll tax, property tax, gasoline tax, sales tax as well as state and federal unemployment tax. How many people reading this column have ever collected federal unemployment compensation? I’d bet none of you have, so where does this tax go? What will happen in this economy if there is a redistribution of wealth by taxing those of us with anything to give to those who don’t have anything? I’ll bet that business owners will pull back from expansion and will not risk expanding their operations, at least not in this country. Who wants to be penalized for success?

Who wants to take a successful business and expand it only to pay more to the government so that they can dole out more to individuals who choose not to work or get an education and make a contribution to our society? What is the incentive for anyone, I repeat anyone to want to do more to make a better life for themselves and their families if the more they succeed, the more they suffer?

I hear from people all of the time who tell me that they are tired and discouraged and don’t think they can do anything and I say to them and to you…get up, and get going.

Write letters to your congressman or congresswoman….regularly.  Write letters to your paper. Write letters on the internet. Talk to people, learn the facts, check out rumors, don’t pass along things you ‘think’ are true…take a few moments to investigate and see if there is any validity to whatever is being said. But the point is you must do something.

YOU MUST VOTE.

We cannot afford to go down the path of socialism in this great country of ours. Obama may be loved by the rest of the world, but I for one do not think we should ask France, Germany, Italy and others if and when we should do something. I don’t think we need their advice. We need to reawake our citizens and let them think, really think about what will happen if we destroy the business environment and spirit of this great nation.

You cannot stop, you cannot believe the polls and you certainly cannot believe the media. They have an agenda of their own and it certainly is not ours. YOUR VOTE COUNTS!!!

Muttha / Joe / Mort by Jim Murphy

Hello once again from the West Texas Association For Gun Clinging Conspiratorial Jingoistic Right Wing Fed Up People.
 
Let me begin this week with a few quick words about Congressman Jack Murtha.  FIRST  CLASS  MUTT.  What made it really great was the fact that after he called the people in his Pennsylvania district racists, he returned to the camera and in a manner which only a liberal idiot could do, took back the racist comment and replaced it with "redneck".   Way to go Jack.  If stupidity were a country, you would be like Russia.
 
This past week we have all been subjected to various news stories about "Joe The Plumber".   Aren't we fortunate that we have media outlets like NBC and several others to point out some really interesting facts about "Joe The Plumber".  First we were made aware that his first name really isn't Joe.   Then after some really outstanding investigative journalism techniques, we were made aware of the shocking fact that "Joe The Plumber" did NOT have a plumbing license.  Boy those two facts were really Biblical in nature, weren't they?  Now not only did the usual suspect liberal news sources harp on this until I was about ready to burst into flames, but FOX News crack reporter Shepard Smith saw fit to also make us aware of these two shocking facts.  As a matter of fact, I found Shepard Smith's reporting of this to be really more obnoxious than the regular mainstream.  Smith was snotty and condescending and even made the statement that since "Joe The Plumber" did not possess a plumbing license that perhaps he should be referred to as: "Joe, the guy who works on the pipes."  I am sure that Shep thought he had hit a home run in the humor area but I thought he had shown his true colors, which were those of an arrogant turd.
 

Then when you really checked into these earth shattering reports a bit further, you learned that "Joe The Plumber's" real name was Samuel JOSEPH Wurzelbacher.  You also learned that he was in fact working as a plumber under his employer's plumbing contractor's license which is legal in most states with which I am familiar.  A number of years back, I called a plumber on a week end when my water heater went out and had a plumbing company come out on a Sunday to replace my old heater with a brand new one.  Did the actual plumbing contractor come out to do this?  Not hardly.  His employee, who was operating under the contractor's license, came out with a new heater and he and I installed it with him doing most of the actual connecting of the pipes.  I would imagine that if Shepard Smith and the remainder of the news Mutts who thought they had really done a bang up job of revealing these facts about "Joe The Plumber" had ever actually had any dealings with a plumbing company, they would have known that many of the "Plumbers" who come to your home to do plumbing work are actually employees operating under their employer's license.  I am also sure that if they really put their minds to it, they might have accidentally stumbled upon the fact that many times, people are called by their nickname and many times they prefer to use their middle name.  They might have actually been able to ascertain that "JOE" is often used as a nickname for "JOSEPH" which happens to be Mr. Wurzelbacher's middle name.
 
One must also wonder if it is incumbent upon all of us to obtain permission from the American news media to use any name other than our full proper name.  If that is the case, do you suppose that Chris Matthews actual name is actually Christopher?  Is Al Sharpton's actual first name Al, or could it be Albert  or Alfonso or perhaps Algonquin or even Algenon?     Inquiring minds want to know.
 
Actually, Joe Wurzelbacher has been interviewed this past couple of weeks and I thought he was a pretty intelligent sounding person and way more likeable than Shepard Smith and most of the other media mutts.  Isn't it a shame that all this man did was ask a simple question to Barack Hussein Obama and as it turned out Obama's answer showed him up for the Marxist/Socialist mutt that he really is?  BUT, who is the media on?  Certainly not the world's most intelligent and articulate human.  No let's get on an average hard working American's case and do everything within our power to make him look less than human.
 
Oh, and before I forget it, lots of plumbers in San Angelo, Texas charge between $75 - $85 per hour labor.  This of course does not include the profit made on the parts and equipment installed.  So in answer to Shep and several other media mutts, I would venture to say that there are a number of plumbing companies who make in excess of $250,000 per year.
 
Well it's about time.  For many years, since about 1991 as a matter of fact, I have been telling people that Colin Powell was a first class liberal mutt.  This week the "General" showed his true side.  And I will make a prediction that if Barack Hussein Obama is elected, Colin Powell will have some job in the administration.  Powell is one of the Bush appointments with which I disagreed from the beginning.
 
For a few moments, let me remain on one of the FOX News contributors who I believe is as liberal/socialist as they come.  This would be Mort Kondracke.  One must seriously wonder if democrats/liberals/socialists have any idea at all about our tax laws and tax structure.  Again, this past week, Mort Kondracke made it a point to call the American public's attention to the fact that Barack Hussein Obama's tax plan would insure that American small businesses would not have to pay any capital gains tax.  I would once again like to point out that a small business's profits are not taxed as a "Capital Gain".   Just so even the residents of "The People's Republic of San Francisco" can grasp the meaning, let me give you the definition of "Capital Gain" as it is in my Webster's New World Dictionary.
 
CAPITAL  GAIN:  Profit resulting from the SALE of capital investments, as stocks.
 
So a small business does not pay capital gains taxes on everyday sales and services.  Now see if Mort and company can grasp this.  A business pays either corporate taxes or income taxes depending upon the size and structure of the particular business.  I have spoken with a number of small business owners and they backed up this information.
 
So, Barack Hussein Obama's promise to cut capital gains taxes on small businesses is as hollow as is the man himself.
 
Is Joseph Biden the "Gift Which Keeps On Giving" or what?  When the Vice Presidential candidate on a ticket which sports the most inexperienced and liberal Senator in the U.S. Senate makes a statement such as the one made this week by Joseph Biden, why is it that all of these Obama supporters, which the pollsters tell us are in the majority, cannot see just what could be in store for our country.  The truth is, I believe that Joseph Biden rather uncharacteristically spoke the truth.  Look into the past and see what Iran did when Jimmy Carter was our President.  Then look and see what Iran did on the day that President Reagan was inaugurated.  Remember, those who fail to learn from history are destined to repeat it.
 
In "The People's Republic Of San Francisco" a group of first grade students were taken as a class to attend the same sex marriage ceremony of their female teacher.  It was explained to the rest of us uninformed gun clingers that this was a "Field Trip" and that it was "Instructional" and a "Learning Experience".   I guess an execution or an autopsy would also be "Instructional" and a "Learning Experience" but I'm not sure it would be advisable to expose a group of first graders to same.  But then again, I do not live in the "City by the bay", nor am I likely to move there.  Also I feel it necessary to mention that this ceremony was performed by San Francisco Mayor, Gavin Newsome who is a regular on our MUTT list.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of spending time at Ozona High School in Ozona, Texas.   I was a guest speaker at several Criminal Justice classes under the tutelage of a good friend, Ben English.  It was a real pleasure to see how some small town high school students handled themselves.  Of course, it was a reflection of the discipline required by Ben of his students.  But that came as no surprise to me as I have also had the pleasure of meeting Ben's family which includes the young Midshipman Levi English named in our prayer list as well as Levi's younger brother Ethan who is a senior at Ozona High School.  Ethan is interested in following in his brother's footsteps at the U.S. Naval Academy.  Ben recently retired from the Texas Department of Public Safety where Ben served for over twenty years as a DPS Highway Patrolman.  Anyway it was really a pleasure to interact with these fine young people and I sure do believe that the people in that small West Texas town are fortunate to have a man the caliber of Ben English as a part of their community.
 
Also while in Ozona I got to visit with my second cousin who is the Chief Deputy with the Crockett County Sheriff's Department.
 
A few moments ago I just got off the telephone with my old ex-partner Peary Perry.  We of course discussed several things and how foolish some people are and how completely incapable many people are in grasping the real truth about how things really are.  I was reminded of something which occurred several years prior to my wife and I moving from Hobbs, New Mexico to San Angelo, Texas.  The main post office in Hobbs was located downtown and was a really small building.  It had some space for P.O. boxes and had a service area with four stations.  So if all stations were working there were four clerks.   The U.S. Postal Service built a really nice new post office in the Northeast end of town.  Lots more parking and a much larger building with the lobby area being a good deal larger.  But there were still only four clerk stations which was exactly the same as the old smaller stations.  I would listen to people talk and they would say that the service at this new post office should move people through much more rapidly since the building was so much larger than was the old post office.  After I had heard enough of these astute observations I finally snapped one day and told a small group that had they built a building which had the floor space of The Astrodome, there were still only FOUR clerk stations.  The size of the building had nothing to do with the speed of service.  Four clerks in a phone booth is still four clerks.  These people looked at each other and thought about it for a moment and proclaimed that they had never quite thought of it that way.
 
I fear that we are preparing to have our next President chosen by a group of people who have no more grasp of reality than did those folks did about the Hobbs post office.  God help us all.
 
Well I guess I had better go for today.   Word has it that there have been a few Xenos spotted in the area and I guess I had better see if I can locate them and phobe the daylights out of them

Letters From North America by 10-20-08

I’m a creature of habit. I like to pay my bills at the same time each month. Usually the same checks go out to the same people month after month, very boring.

My handwriting is terrible, I can’t recall how it got that way, but most people have a very hard time trying to make any sense of any thing I write by hand. Thank God for computers. I write my checks for my bills using a computer program which makes keeping up with things a lot easier.

All of my paid bills go into a folder for that month. I staple a copy of the invoice together with the bottom half of the check. Nice and neat. Then I print out a copy of the checks I’ve written and put it in the front.

I know this is boring, but I’m coming to the point. Our bills are generally so predicable, I can tell if I haven’t paid something and start to look for either a lost or misplaced invoice.

But, over time you start to see a pattern emerge that makes me wonder.


My local cable company tends to send me an invoice maybe once every two months. I started noticing this was happening couple of months ago due to the fact that I hadn’t gotten an invoice for the current month and wanted to pay for the service. Several years ago, we stopped getting mail at our house and switched to a post office box since someone was stealing mail out of the boxes in our neighborhood. Of course we notified everyone of this change. All the other vendors managed to get the message, except…you got it…the cable company. For about a year they would send the invoice to the wrong address, I wouldn’t get it, have to call them and either give them a credit card payment over the phone or send my wife to their office to make the payment. This is a real pain.

Finally, I got someone on the phone to make the change. Next month, no invoice. I called again….this time they sent it to the correct address but the wrong zip code.

Now mind you each time you have to call this company you must be prepared to sit on hold for at least forty five minutes and listen to their commercials as well as some elevator music that no one has ever heard before. It is not what I would call a pleasurable experience.

Last week I paid all the bills as usual. Once again, no invoice. This time I just made a copy of the last one I paid and send a check for the same amount to the address on the invoice. Over this past weekend we kept getting calls from the cable company, but they would never leave a message. I began to suspect why.

This morning my wife called them, very early, spoke to someone and told them that a check for the previous balance had been paid and why were they calling?

Now, here’s where the rubber meets the road. Whoever was on the line talking to my wife tells her that if I sent the check to the address on the envelope as directed, then it will take anywhere from fourteen to twenty-one days to be processed. In other words, one to three weeks.

The check is not considered on time even if postmarked three weeks earlier, it’s considered on time once they process it and credit your account. So, if the date they process the check is past the date the invoice was due, even though you sent it to them in plenty of time, then they tack on a five dollar ‘late’ fee.

Isn’t this lovely?

Their answer to this problem is to give them authorization to draft the balance due for your checking account each month to eliminate the possibility of being late and to avoid the late fee.

I don’t know about you, but I like to see what I am paying for and don’t feel comfortable letting someone just deduct amounts from my accounts without my approval. But these people seem to have it coming and going. They get the late fee if they don’t process your check in due time. They probably have one person opening the mail and posting the thousands of checks coming to them on a daily basis, but hey who cares since they make more by not being efficient?

It seems to me that the old adage… ‘The customer is always right’ has gone by the wayside in this country in the past few years.

I think it’s kind of sad.

Giant Dirty Bomb?

 Following is a excerpt from an article I read today.  If this is credible, why is our government keeping quiet?

 Although American intelligence and government sources are maintaining a strictly observed silence, the same does not apply to the Russians and so it is that we learn the real story of the MV Iran Deyanat. She was an enormous floating dirty bomb, intended to detonate after exiting the Suez Canal at the eastern end of the Mediterranean and in proximity to the coastal cities of Israel. The entire cargo of radioactive sand, obtained by Iran from China (the latter buys desperately needed oil from the former) and sealed in containers which, when the charges on the ship are set off after the crew took to the boats, will be blasted high into the air where prevailing winds will push the highly dangerous and radioactive cloud ashore.

You can stick a fork in me, I’m done. I cannot watch any more of the election news or reporting this year. I am fed up and will spend the rest of this month quietly reading a good book in some dark room of my house.

In my opinion, if you have not made up your mind as to who you want to vote for in the upcoming Presidential election, you must have either (1) been held in solitary confinement in a prison or (2) in the far off reaches of outer space or (3) you are too dumb to participate in the electoral process.
 
Up until last night I had fairly high hopes for our party in this country to pull it off and show the fundamental differences between liberal and conservative philosophy. But, alas it was not to be and last nights display showed me (along with many others) that in spite of months of rhetoric and name calling, it is still them… (Congressmen) and us.



Last night, both of the Presidential candidates appeared at a fund raiser dinner in New York City. Both were in tie and tails as were the bejeweled members of the obviously wealthy audience. I don’t think tickets to this soiree would have been available to the likes of you and me. Joe the plumber was not in attendance. If he was, he might have been disguised as a waiter.

Anyway, the two candidates had just finished their last and final debate the evening before. In that debate the terms, terrorist and liar were tossed back and forth with equal contempt. The stress between the two was visibly evident by looking at their jaws, which were clenched as tight as any bull dog that I have ever seen.

No, last night, all was forgotten and it was back to the old boys club. With hardy laughs, claps on the back and accolades flowing sweetly between two men who had appeared to the public as sworn enemies less than twenty four hours before. Obviously what is on the campaign trail is an act meant to sway our votes and mask their true feelings and beliefs.

We are stupid, they are brilliant.

They are in and we are out.

I don’t know why I was surprised. It was back to business as usual. The good old boys in government and us. Rome is burning, the hurricane is coming, plagues are in the air and our leaders are sipping fine wines from crystal glasses and toasting each other on how ‘honorable’ and ‘history making’ they are. There were enough big laughs and smartly prepared comic speeches to pull everyone in attendance together for a gala evening.

A night to remember.

Except for those of us standing outside looking in.

No, the economy is in the toilet and we can’t get enough real information on who was to blame. Was it the Democrats under Jimmy Carter or a law passed by Republican Senator Phil Gramm? All we know is that our retirements have evaporated; our costs are going up…we have not heard anything from anyone with any proof on how we got into this mess or for that matter how we can escape. The only tool available to our government is to throw more money (ours) at the problem and hope it goes away. Meanwhile those in the know, and probably at the party last night, make millions or billions from the markets no matter which way the markets shift. I think the term... ‘golden parachutes’ is a misnomer and they should now be called  … ‘platinum parachutes’. One such company (AIG) had the gall to borrow over 122 billion from us, the taxpayers and then sent some of their executives on a $440,000 party and another group to England (cost of $87,000) to do a little hunting. I think the grouse were in season. I guess when you have it flaunt it. Incidentally the Federal Reserve has elected to keep the details of the second (37 billion) loan secret and the details hidden from the public.

Not that we have a right to know. We just pay the bills, no need for us to know what the monies are being used for. Damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead.

How dare we question those in authority? How dare we stamp our feet and demand to know the truth about our government? How dare we ask that our elected representatives actually vote according to the wishes of the people rather than how they personally feel or what they receive for their congressional votes?

No, last night just reaffirmed my nagging suspicions that in spite of all of the political posturing we’ve seen and heard over the past months, there is still major class distinction in this country. I find it hard to believe that those in attendance at last night’s dinner could or would be able to identify with the majority of average Americans.

No one there appeared to be concerned with the faces at the window.

“Close the drapes; please...those people are offensive to us.”

As you are to us.

South Texas deputies authorized to fire into Mexico

This article from the Houston Chronicle tells a story that the Main Stream Media wont touch.  Our Border Patrol Agents and Local Sheriff's Deputy's along our South Texas Border are under attack from drug smugglers and other elements intent on violating our laws.  This problem goes well beyond Illegal Immigration and is in fact an invasion of our national sovereignty.  Our agents have now been issued fully automatic weapons and given the authority to fire across our national border to protect themselves. Have you heard this on the evening news?  I didn't think so!

EDINBURG — Authorities in South Texas said today that they won't be intimidated by increasingly violent drug smugglers, announcing a larger Border Patrol presence and that more heavily armed deputies will be authorized to return fire across the Mexican border.

Operation "River Freedom Denial" will target areas along the Rio Grande in the southern tip of Texas where violence has risen lately with more ground and air resources, said Border Patrol sector chief Ronald Vitiello.

Standing with a Texas Department of Public Safety captain and the Hidalgo County Sheriff, Vitiello cited an exchange of gunfire between his agents and drug smugglers Monday and another incident this week of a smuggler ramming an agent's truck in making his escape.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino said the deputies he will assign to the operation along the river will all be issued fully automatic rifles and authorized to return fire.

"We are not going to be intimidated by the increased aggression," Trevino said.

He recalled an incident in 2006 when more than 300 shots were fired across the river at his deputies and Border Patrol agents. At that time he decided to pull his deputies back from the river for their safety.

Not this time.

"If fired upon we will respond in kind," he said.

I am in the process of organizing a Special Event from Make-A Statement Radio. Is America Ready to Fight the Next War?

IS AMERICA PREPARED TO FIGHT THE NEXT WAR

In 1980, the F-15A was the newest, most technically advanced, air-to-air fighter in the United States Air Force inventory, and I was honored to be one of the first F-15 Squadron Commanders.  Located at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, I commanded the 94th Tactical Fighter Squadron, which normally consisted of 26 aircraft and 30 of the most highly trained pilots in America.  At $33M per copy, the F-15 was the most expensive fighter of the day, and it was designed to give the US a clear advantage over any adversary for many years in the future. 

When Jimmy Carter became President, procurement of the F-15 continued, but spare parts procurement came to a standstill.  As happens with Democratic Presidents, money was diverted from the military and used to increase social programs, that in retrospect served little value to the nation. 

Over a two year period from 1979 to 1981, there was not a single day that my fully-mission-capable (FMC) rate was higher than 33 percent.  In a nutshell, over two-thirds of my 26 F-15s were always broken, because of a lack of spare parts.  It amazed me at how hard our maintenance personnel worked to keep those few airplanes flying. They constantly cannibalized parts from other aircraft, which doubled maintenance time.  Later we found we were breaking over half of the parts cannibalized.  It was a vicious cycle that drove our forces to the ground.  We had no capability during that period, and the buck stopped at the President’s desk, Jimmy Carter. 

Little did I know at the time, that the entire U.S. military was in basically the same condition.  We could not train effectively, as the equipment was broken.  There is a clear bottom line to the story.  The Tactical Air Command accident rate for fighter aircraft went from approximately 1.75 accidents per 100,000 flying hours to just under seven, because of the loss of flying proficiency of the pilots.  Our military was not capable of defending this great nation from a viable threat, and fortunately that threat did not appear during this time frame.  However, we were losing aircraft and young aircrew members at a rate normally seen only in actual combat.


That is history - so why is it important today?  I will speak of the U.S. Air Force, as that is the service I know best.  However, I must emphasize that the Army, Navy, and Marines are in a similar condition to the Air Force today, and some may be in even worse condition. 

After 17 years of war in the Middle-East and the downsizing that occurred during the Bill Clinton administration, our military is in even more serious condition than that experienced during the Jimmy Carter era.  A big difference arises when you look at the differences in the threat between the two time periods.  In 1980, the primary threat facing the United States was the Soviet Union, and it’s massive nuclear arsenal.  Our deterrent against that threat was our own massive nuclear arsenal, and the concept of Massively-Assured-Destruction (MAD), which was obviously successful.  The lack of capability of conventional forces was considered detrimental by our military leaders, but not short-term life-threatening to our country.  That is not the case today. 

Nearly all military experts agree that the future threats facing this nation will consist primarily of those similar to what we have faced in Afghanistan and Iraq.  Yes, with China spending 16% of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on defense and expanding their military on the ground, air, and sea, as well as nuclear capability, they must be considered a major, future threat and possibly the world’s second Superpower.  Russia is rebuilding its military might, and opposes the United States on every occasion, and India is spending an ever increasing amount of its GDP on defense. This will drive the U.S. to maintain a strong nuclear deterrent, as well as strong conventional forces.  However, the threat that will require a high degree of Special Forces and Conventional capability is the ever growing threat of Radical Islamic Terrorism. 

Radical Islam has been attacking the West since the seventh century.  It has been repelled, beaten back, and held at bay for all those many years to re-emerge on occasion causing utter havoc for the infidel.  It is a patient movement.  If success does not come to this generation, that is OK.  It will come during the next generation.  In the past, this has been limited partially, because of a lack of funding.  That no longer holds true.  Radical Islam is well funded today by our own petro dollars, which now makes the threat even more real and dangerous.  This threat will not go away, and we must be prepared to face it long term, or the United States will face changes in the near future so drastic that the landscape will be permanently changed, and we will not like the result. 

So, let’s be specific.  What is the condition of our military today?  And again, let’s look at the US Air Force, remembering that all branches of our military are in very similar condition. 

Today, roughly 14% of US Air Force aircraft are grounded due to major fatigue problems brought on by excessive us in Middle-East war.  Of a fleet of 5800 aircraft of all types, all are experiencing the same difficulty.  The Pentagon’s planned aircraft procurement of manned aircraft is roughly 45 to 70 airplanes per year.  That means to recapitalize at the planned rate will take up to 100 years.  My Pug dog understands that is not acceptable. 

The average age of our fighter force is over 24 years old, with an average flight time of over 5400 hours per aircraft.  The F-15A-D aircraft I spoke of earlier is over 32 years old and today 163 of 441 aircraft are grounded because of fatigue cracking in the fuselage, and most will be retired to the bone-yard.  The majority of all blocks of F-16 aircraft require structural modification, and all A-10 aircraft needs new wings, engines and have landing gear problems. 

Airlift is in even more dire straits.  The average age of our cargo fleet is over 22 years with an average flight time of over 32,000 flying hours per airplane.  Of 108 C-5 aircraft, 39 are restricted due to crown skin restricted, reducing their ability to carry heavy gross weight.  All of our C-130H aircraft have wing center box problems.  Add to the difficulties with existing airlift aircraft is the fact that there has never been enough capability to support the other services in an all out war effort. 

The average age of our bomber fleet is over 32 years old, with average flying time per airframe exceeding 11,400 hours.  The workhorse B-52 is over 50 years old.  There is not a pilot flying the bird as old as the airplane itself.  It must be retired and replaced.  The entire fleet of B-2 bombers is restricted due to windshield bolt hole cracks, and the expense of this aircraft prohibits further purchases. 

The Air Force Chief of Staff has set as his number one priority, the replacement of the KC-135 air refueling aircraft.  The average age of our tanker force is over 44 years old and the average flying time per aircraft exceeds 18,900 hours.  Today, 26 of the 86 KC-135E aircraft are grounded due to engine strut corrosion. 

At best, from 2008 to 2013 the Air Force will lose 749 aircraft, and procure approximately 438 manned aircraft.  To put this in proper perspective, when the Air Force grounded it fleet of almost 600 F-15A-D aircraft, it grounded more aircraft than the entire Navy F/A fleet, which equates to a bit more than three aircraft carriers of aircraft. 

The bottom line to the above simply means that as currently budgeted, the US Air Force is going to have a one-war capability for a least the next decade, while the US doctrine has always been to provide a military capability to fight wars on two fronts.  No modern war has been won without air-superiority, and no future war will be won without air, space and cyberspace superiority.  Ours is not a third-world Air Force, but it must be properly funded, or it will become one. 

So, what is the answer?  What must be done?  During WWII the US spent a whopping 34.5% of its GDP on defense, as might be expected.  At the height of the Vietnam War the US spent 10% of its GDP on defense.  In the 1980s, while attempting to overcome the disastrous Carter years, Ronald Reagan set military spending at 6%.  Even at that rate it took years to recover.  In 1986, I was an F-16 Wing Commander at MacDill AFB, Florida.  The spare parts problem was fixed, my FMC rate war 85 to 90 % every day, the pilots were flying, our accident rate was again below two percent, and the US military was ready to defend this great nation.  It took proper funding. 

Again, let’s be specific.  The new F-22 fighter aircraft will put our Air Force well ahead of all adversaries for years to come, but at a cost.  It was designed to replace the F-15 and F-16.  The original purchase plan for the F-22 numbered over 680 aircraft.  The Clinton administration cut that to approximately 380 aircraft, and the Bush administration further reduced the buy to 183 aircraft, where it stands today.  By reducing the number of aircraft purchased the price was driven from $125M per airframe to over $160 per airframe.  The F-35 is a fighter jointly developed for the Air Force, Navy and Marines, and the initial purchase plan calls for over 1700 aircraft for the Air Force alone.  The F-35 is a cheaper, less capable fighter meant to replace the A-10, and augment replacement of the F-15 and F-16.   This too will be scrutinized by our Congress and possibly cut to an unacceptable level. 

To provide for a strong deterrent to future threats, which will most likely prevent future wars, this nation’s military spending should be increased to near 6% GDP.  The F-22 buy should be set at a minimum of 380 aircraft.  The cheaper F-35 buy should be maintained at above 1700 aircraft to replace the aging F-15s and F-16s.  The C-5s must be replaced and 600+ newer C-17s bought to fill the gap.  The B-52 should be retired in the next few years, and a new cheaper bomber developed.  A new contract for air refueling tankers has just been let, and the total buy on this aircraft should be completed. 

Historically, our Congress, in concert with the President, has mandated the doctrine our military is designed to carry out.  It is the responsibility of the military to develop strategy to carry out that doctrine, and develop a budget for equipment required to support that strategy.  Just as historically, our Congress has been reluctant to fund the military budget.  Today, this cartoon is taking a more profound turn.  The threat is far worse than it has ever been before, to include WWII, and Congress is more reluctant than ever before to fund for it. 

An active duty Air Force four-star General recently remarked, “Any level of operational capability is acceptable, depending on what risk you are willing to take.”  While assessing the risk to this nation during the next decade, I have come to the conclusion that I am not personally prepared to take a risk that will affect my children and grandchildren. 

I suggest it is time for our Congress, President and all government officials to step up to the task.  As President Ronald Reagan said, “During my lifetime I have observed four wars, and none were started because the United States was too strong.”  It is time to build a deterrent force so strong that no outside force would dare threaten the United States of America.  That is the only way peace will be absolutely assured.

Letters From North America 10-14-08

To get your mind off of the upcoming election, I thought I would throw in a little humor this week. When will this be over? It seems like it’s been going on for at least a full year.

My 50 year high school reunion is coming up in about 18 months or so. Between now and then there are several things that I must get done.

First off, I need to lose about fifty pounds. I weighted 112 when I graduated, but I think that would be impossible for me to realistically achieve unless I stopped eating altogether for the remaining period of time. Even then I don’t think I would make it or if I did I would have to be wheeled in with all sorts of tubes and bags hanging on me. Not a good impression. This might have a dampening effect on the whole party.

Next, I have to have a hair transplant and a full face lift. I need to do this in the not so distant future since I want the scars to heal and for the surgery not to be so obvious. I think hair transplants such as the one Joe Biden got are really terrible, so I need to research what looks super natural. Oh, and I’ll need at least 5 hours a day in the gym to tone and muscle up my sagging body.

The last and probably most important part of this plan is to make a huge amount of money to pay for all of the items I’ve outlined above. Of course you have to allow for a complete new wardrobe for both my wife and myself. The money part is probably the stickiest part of my plan.

I realize I should have gotten started earlier, but some things just kept getting in the way.

Among them were kids and grandkids, jobs, houses, parents, taxes, health, school, and a raft of other things that seemed to occupy my time for these past 50 years. I sit back and think to myself that it sure seemed as if it flew by in a hurry. Just the other day it was 1960 and here it is 2008 already. Whoa, that was quick.

I think the last reunion I went to was my 25th. Someone on the organization committee  had printed the name tags in red ink. Trust me; you don’t want to do this. No one at the 25th wanted to be seen wearing glasses and the red ink in a dimly lit ballroom made the names virtually impossible to read. So, everyone ended up squinting and trying to grab a glimpse on the sly.

Of course it didn’t help that everyone had changed. Few of us looked like we did at age 18.

I don’t know why, but when I look in the mirror I see the same person I have always been. It’s when I am trying to run up several flights of stairs or lift heavy objects that my body tends to fail. I’ve also noticed that my eyesight isn’t as sharp as it was before and my wife tells me I need to invest in a hearing aid. I choose to believe I have selective hearing and will put off the hearing aid as long as I can.

The good news is that I think by this stage of the game, everyone should be past the point of trying to impress everyone else. No limo’s or other nonsense like that. No by this time in our lives I think all of us would be wearing sensible shoes with good arch supports as well as comfortable loose fitting clothing. Instead of your athletic prowess you should be glad to show that you still have all of your own teeth. As well as other material parts of your body.

Growing old or older certainly isn’t a lot of fun but it beats not growing older. I met a guy at lunch today who was 88 and says he is still trying to figure out what to do when he grows up. I want this to be my attitude. So many people are concerned over what other people will think of them and to be honest no one really cares. No one today will probably recall what you did or said 15 or 20 years from now.

Unless it was totally bizarre like my concept of a total body makeover and billionaire status within the next 18 months.

Now that would get people’s attention. I just wonder if I have enough time to pull it off.

I started thinking more about this when some of you asked me about it; I presume because of my undergrad in Economics degree and my experience on Capitol Hill.  I promised you I would do some research before I could make an informed opinion.  I am writing this for you, my friends, to share with you some of the stunning things I found upon research.  Feel free to share these thoughts with anyone you know, and be certain that any comments on possible criminal activity is based on my impression of what I obtained from public information. 
The big question everyone will ask is, who's to blame?  There is blame to go around for everyone.  The very short answer is that the housing boom, combined with proponents of lower income loans (largely Democrats) lit the fire.   The fire was fanned by poor decision making by financial institutions and field by corruption.  The Republicans and the current administration are guilty of continuing the champion some of the policies that started this storm and share some responsibility for not championing action sooner.  And the Fed bears some responsibility for not foreseeing the downside of its super low interest rates.
And the Senate and House banking committees were not only negligent in their duties of oversight, but perhaps were so due to their own criminally profiteering from this situation.



However, the epicenter of this financial quake lies squarely with Fannie Mae and Countrywide.  Here you see the conjoinment of corruption and poor business decisions as you put politicians in the board room (Fannie Mae), which was exploited by Countrywide.

But I also want to point out that the American people bear some responsibility.  They voted the office holders in office.  And before the American people complain about their lack of choice, the blame is on them.  Because they spend more time watching 'Dancing with the Stars', they are influenced on how to vote by TV ads and not by their own research  In the age of the internet, any candidate would have a shot at a true grass roots movement should the public not be so lazy.  And all Americans who made poor financial decisions, you bear the responsibility.  I reject the notion of predatory lending...while banks may be greedy, you signed up for that loan.  This is a free country and you make free choices.  Be prepared to live with them.

Trust no Congressional investigation, as the road of corruption and negligence lands squarely at their doorstep.  Any FBI investigation will be a difficult one, as the road of corruption will likely lead to the highest levels of government.

The Secretary of the Treasury, the Federal Reserve Chairman and both House and Senate Committees with administrative oversight of financial services should be removed from their position.  At best, they are guilty of negligence.  I believe some of them are guilty of criminal activity.

I would like to highlight a person who few people have done more damage to the US than Jamie Gorelick.  Gorelick, as you may recall, was the creator of the so-termed 'Wall' that prevented intelligence collected to be shared with law enforcement and severely limited the FBI's ability to investigate and prosecute counterterrorism operations prior to 9/11.  How she was not a witness in the 9/11 commission rather than a member remains one of the great mysteries to me.  She completely skated on that issue, only to appear later in this mess which you will read more about later.  She was more valuable to Al Qaeda than Khalid Shaykh Mohammad.

HOUSING BUBBLE

This story begins where the last one ends ... that is, the tech bubble of the late 90's.  While economists will debate exactly what caused the housing bubble, many point to the tech bubble as one of the causes.  After the tech bubble of the late 90's, investors looked to real estate since it was perceived to be a better and 'safe' investment.

As a result of the tech bubble and the 9/11 attacks, the economy was struggling.  The Fed kept an extremely low interest rate, which created ripe conditions for the housing bubble.

The low interest rates made 'flipping' more attractive.  It also lowered the spread for the so-called 'subprime' mortgages, which set the stage for disaster.

AT THE CENTER, CORRUPTION AND NEGLIGENCE

As mentioned earlier, the center of this quake is Fannie Mae (and Freddy Mac) and Countrywide.  Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac are government sponsored enterprises.  This means that while it operates as a for profit business, it is run by political appointees.

Fannie Mae was set up to assist the liquidity in the credit market.  It works by purchasing mortgages from banks for cash and then selling the mortgages as mortgage-backed securities (or collateralized debt organizations) in a secondary market.  The cash that goes back to the bank allows the bank to issue more loans than would normally be possible without Fannie Mae. This creates a better credit market and allows for more business and home loans.  An important point is that Fannie Mae GUARANTEES these loans.

It is estimated that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac own or guarantee about 50% of the nation's mortgages.

In 1999, Frank Raines was appointed to be the Chairman of Fannie Mae by President Clinton.  Under his leadership, Raines eased the standards of the loans that Fannie Mae would take and encouraged those banks to make those loans.  This is a continuation on the theme of the Community Reinvestment Act, which forced banks to meet 'the credit needs of its entire community.' Banks were harshly judged on this, and many argue that the act extolled banks into making poor loans.  (Check out the following article written in 1999!)

Former Clinton administration officials Franklin Raines (White House budget director) and Jamie Gorelick (Deputy Attorney General) were in charge of the enterprise during the period 2000-2004.
 
Countrywide Financial was taking of the situation at Fannie Mae.  Countrywide Financial was run by Angelo Mozilo, and was flying high prior to its downfall.
Fortune Magazine reported that between 1982 and 2003, Countrywide delivered investors a 23,000% return.
Countrywide Financial had 28% of all single family loans for Fannie Mae, and Fannie Mae was the largest buyer of Countrywide Mortgages.  By comparison, the well known and super large Bank of America had only 4%.
Several reports have alleged that Frank Raines, Jamie Gorelick and other Fannie Mae leaders had received favorable loans from Fannie Mae.  See report below from the Wall Street Journal.

In addition, several other prominent persons are named as having received favorable loans from Countrywide, including Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd (D-CT).

Meanwhile, Dodd seemed totally oblivious to the problem.  As late as July 2008, he called Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac 'fundamentally strong.'

The story was the same on the other side as Barney Frank, who became the Chairman of the House Financial Services committee in 2007.  In 2003, Frank said there was no crisis at Fannie Mae during attempts to regulate Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac.

One important thing to note is that Sen. John McCain saw the potential problems with Fannie Mae and introduced legislation in 2005 to address this problem:

If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole. '

Reports have surfaced alleging that lobbyists who lobbied on behalf of Fannie Mae are now working for McCain's presidential campaign.

Sen. Barack Obama, meanwhile, received more campaign contributions from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac than any other Senator over his time in the Senate except for Chris Dodd.
Former Fannie Mae leaders Raines and Jim Johnson have both reported to be advisors for Obama's campaign.

THE ECONOMIC TSUNAMI

So a brief recap.  While the housing prices continue to go up in what the 'Economist' magazine termed the greatest housing bubble in history, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac had severely eased their credit restrictions and were making loans to those who were risky creditors.  In addition, many large banks were making loans because credit was cheap and people were accepting loans even though it was not financially wise.  This was particularly true for Countrywide, who had nearly a fifth of US mortgages in 2006.  Add in corruption and lax oversight, and there was an underwater earthquake very few people felt.  Although, the 'Motley Fool' certainly saw it coming in 2004:

All of the above was not noticed until the housing bubble popped.  With plummeting housing prices, all of these borrowers who were dependent and counting on home values continuing to rise had their highly leveraged positions exposed and could not meet their loan obligations.  Similarly, the banks faced the same thing and became insolvent when they did not have enough cash to meet their short term obligations.  So suddenly, the economic tsunami washed ashore.

It's funny to me that everyone is blaming deregulation, particularly the Democrats.  I contend to you it is poor regulation.  When you have politicians running one of the largest financial institutions in the United States, is that de-regulation?  In addition, technical accounting rules that resulted from previous scandals, such as 'mark to market' exacerbated the situation.  In the Administration's favor, one partisan contends the Bush Administration tried to take action several times:

As for the bailout, I say this. After knowing what I know, why would I entrust the cleanup of this mess to the Treasury Secretary, the  Fed and the Congress?  Clearly they were corrupt and incompetent while this was happening.

My solution would be this  Provide incentives for private financial institutions that made wise decisions and did not get greedy (Morgan Stanley, for example) to purchase the bad mortgage  securities.  whatever the free market doesn't buy, the government will buy the rest.  This will reduce the cost of the program.  While it is true that the government could make money on this by buying $700 billion of securities and selling them for a trillion, remember the persons running this purchase and sale will be bureaucrats.  They get paid the same whether we lose $700 billion or make $700 billion.

My friends, there is a part of me that is glad this has happened.  After 9/11, I called upon my generation to do its part for its country.  But not even 9/11 or a war could get Americans to understand the importance on understanding their responsibility as a citizen and an American.  I am sad that it had to take a hit in your pocketbook to get you to pay attention, so hear me now.  You have enjoyed perhaps the greatest period of prosperity in the history of the world over the past 25 years.

Do your part so that your kids and those coming in the next generations got to live in as great as a country as you have.  As the Farmhouse motto says, to do so 'may require a sacrifice of time, pleasures, or comforts.'  History is watching.  What will you do?

Last night I tried to watch the John McCain -  Barack Hussein Obama debate.  I found it to be incredibly dull and really without a whole bunch of substance.  As you might have guessed, I am NOT an UNDECIDED voter.  At this late stage of the game, if an individual is UNDECIDED then he or she, as the case may be, is in dire need of an intelligence transfusion.  While attempting to get excited about this debate, all the time knowing full well that The Missouri Breaks was showing  on the Western Channel, all I heard was pretty much the same old stuff.
 
There is no doubt in my mind that John McCain is light years ahead of the ultra liberal Senator from Chicago.  While John McCain did point a few well deserved fingers at Obama, I personally thought he spent way too much time telling us about his ability to "Reach across the aisle" and work with Democrat/Socialist Senators naming "Fat Teddy"(this would be Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy);   Russ Feingold; and a couple of other far left loons.  Every time I hear the term "Reach Across The Aisle" I can't help but think of the reasons given to "Reach Across The Aisle".  The only valid reason I can come up with to "Reach Across The Aisle", particularly to reach Fat Teddy or Russ Feingold, would be to choke the crap out of them both.
 
But we all know that what today's politicians mean by "Reaching Across The Aisle" is to work in a "BI-PARTISAN" manner with a bunch of socialists who have absolutely no intention of giving in to any conservative thought or suggestion.  I have had about enough of bi-partisan behavior.  I am about ready for so called conservative politicians to just stand up for what is right.  Stop giving in to these far left leaning bozos.  Remember, giving in is EASY.  Standing up for what is right is HARD.  These people are not elected to take the easy way out.
 

Let me again address the "Undecided Voters".  It seems to me that this Presidential campaign has been going on for about a year or so and I had my favorites pretty early in the game.  John McCain became the Republican nominee and I did not have to think very long before I decided that Senator McCain would receive my vote.  One of the reasons for reaching this decision was that just one look at ANY of the democrat/socialist candidates turned my stomach.  But in their infinite wisdom the democrats/socialists saw fit to choose Barack Hussein Obama as their standard bearer.  But long before he was named as their choice, I had DECIDED for whom I would vote.  I am not sure that these UNDECIDED  VOTERS are not a figment of the news media's imagination.  I am of the opinion that most people decided pretty early in the game for whom they would cast their vote.  Ah, but that would not be good for the network news mutts.
 
I was sent an audio clip yesterday of some interviews conducted by someone on the Howard Sterns Show.  Now, I imagine that you all know that I would rather be pecked to death by a duck than agree with ANYTHING said or done by this Sterns mutt.  BUT yesterday I had to agree with Howard Sterns as his interviews pointed out without a doubt that many black voters were voting FOR Barack Hussein Obama for one reason only and that was the fact that he was black.  What the interviewer did was go to Harlem and ask people for whom they were voting and of course they all said Barack (Hussein) Obama.  (I threw the Hussein in because it pisses off the liberals).  Then the interviewer asked them why and the folks replied that they liked his policies and his beliefs.  Then the interviewer asked them if they supported Barack Obama's "Pro Life Policies";  "His choice of Sarah Palin as VP"; or  "His support of the War in Iraq".   And of course all of these well informed voters said they supported every one of these Obama policies.  Even Howard Sterns thought these people were goofy.
 
Now if agreeing with Howard Sterns were not enough to shake the earth, I also found myself in agreement with ALEC BALDWIN.  I actually saw Alec Baldwin blaming Barney Frank and Congress for the problems with our financial institutions.  What will happen next?  Alec Baldwin and Howard Sterns on the same day?  Frightening.
 
This past week, both of our Texas Senators voted FOR the "Bail Out Legislation".  Unfortunately so did my Representative.  I had written and e-mailed all of them requesting that they not support this pork laden legislation but apparently this had no effect.  Our Representative actually had an article in our local paper in which he said that the majority of his constituents were AGAINST the legislation but he felt that its passage was in all of our best interests.  Isn't it amazing how these people seem to always know what is best for us.
 
Anyway, I thought that Senator McCain missed a couple of chances to really pour it to Barack Hussein Obama.  In all fairness, he did point out several issues in which Barack Hussein Obama showed his true colors.
 
During the daylight hours, we have been subjected to some House hearings with an absolutely brilliant panel of elected mutts with Henry Waxman chairing the hearings.  They were questioning some of the top management of  some of the lending institutions which had gone belly up.  On Monday, this body of incompetents were questioning Richard Fuld who was the CEO of Lehman Brothers.  I personally believe that this man should be a target in an investigation and I feel sure that good investigators could dig up enough evidence on him to send him directly to jail without passing GO.
 
But in response to some fairly inept questioning by this panel of clowns, Mr. Fuld began answering and using terms, which I will admit confused me.  He began talking about leverage, liquidity, collateral calls,  margin calls,  tier one liquidity, etc......  I admit that I was completely lost as to the meaning of many of his statements.  BUT, I looked at the faces of this panel and they had the same blank look as I had and I knew then that Fuld was giving them a bunch of double talk and not a one of them had the courage to get him to slow down, stop and explain in plain terms just exactly what he was talking about.
 
I have a question.  How was it possible for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to stand before a microphone and praise Barney Franks for his "Leadership"?  If this sissy is a leader then I will probably be made an Admiral in the Ethiopian Navy.(Now for those of you residing in the People's Republic of San Francisco, I don't believe that Ethiopia has a Navy).

Well, I just imagine that most of you were as sad as I when the news of O.J.'s conviction on ALL  TWELVE  COUNTS.  If any of you are of a mind to donate to an O.J. Appeal Fund, just send the money to me and I will make sure it is put to some really good use.  And what was so beautiful about this sorry mutt's conviction was that it was 13 years to the day of his acquittal in the double murder case in Los Angeles.  I am sure we will be subjected to months of whining and accusations of racism, but it might be worth it to see this turd finally get what he so richly deserves.
 
This past week in our local paper, there was a really nice article about a local author who has written several books and is a true expert on one of my absolute favorite people, Theodore Roosevelt.  The man to whom I am referring is one of the good conservatives on my regular mail list.  His name is Mike Thompson.  I just purchased one of his earlier novels "Charlie Deegan" which is on CD and I have read, I believe his second novel, "Curse of Al Capone's Gold".  I have also had the pleasure of proof reading another novel which I believe is being edited at the moment.  Mike is not only a super writer, he is also a really good guy.  So if any of you enjoy reading, I believe that "Curse of Al Capone's Gold" is available through Amazon.  At least that's where I purchased mine.  Also, I believe that it will soon be released in paper back.   Good stuff.
 
Let us all get out and get to work and get people out to the polls and vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin.  People, we cannot afford to let Barack Obama and Joseph Biden get their hands on the Executive Branch with both Houses of our Congress being in control of socialists.

Bailout or Sellout? D Hill

As I sit here listening to the reports on the governments take over of several banks, the hair on the back of my neck begins to stand up.  I have been against this bailout from the word go!  This is Socialism pure and simple.  I am thankful that my Congressman Jeb Hensarling was smart enough to vote against it and I say THANK YOU.

Bailout, Fiscal Responsibility, & Henderson County David Hill

Unless you live in a proverbial cave and pay absolutely no attention to the news, you are aware that our All Knowing Government has thrown out the Constitution and the Free Market System it created and chose to throw 700 billion dollars away buying trash loans in an attempt to SAVE our Economy.  As you might guess, I am not happy at all with this decision.  Here are a few of the parasite attachments that were included in this sell out of our Freedom.
Sec. 211. Transportation fringe benefit to bicycle commuters
Sec. 308. Increase in limit on cover over of rum excise tax to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
Sec. 309. Extension of economic development credit for American Samoa.
Sec. 312. Deduction allowable with respect to income attributable to domestic production activities in Puerto Rico.
Sec. 317. Seven-year cost recovery period for a motorsports racing track facility.
Sec. 322. Tax incentives for investment in the District of Columbia.
Sec. 325. Extension and modification of duty suspension on wool products; wool research fund; wool duty refunds.
Correct me if I am wrong but I do not see where any of these provisions help our current financial crisis. Furthermore, they are examples of what got us in this situation in the first place.  Wake up folks! I am a good ol’ boy from East Texas and I know what a Stock Yard smells like, and this stinks worse than that.


With the previous statement in mind: sewage flows downhill, this is a law of physics that can not be argued with.  That said, our State, like every one of our 50 states here in the USA, are being affected by this economic nightmare.  As the people see their 401 and retirement accounts dwindle, they stop spending money on things that are not necessary. This means that Sales Tax Revenues will decrease.   No big deal, right?  Wrong!  States base their budgets on projected revenues and when this amount is less than they expected, the state goes into deficit.   Unlike the Federal Government who owns the printing presses that spit out hundred dollar bills, the State Government is required to cut their spending to adjust to the new dollar amount they have to spend. (If this confuses you, Google “Balanced Budget” for a proper definition.) If the good ol’ boys definition will work for you then; Balanced Budget means Don’t Spend Money You Do Not Have.  Now is the time to rein in every expenditure that is not necessary!

For those of us here in Henderson County, our Commissioners Court passed a budget that included a substantial pay increase for County Employees.  This is foolish at  best and needs to be overturned.  We all are forced to cut back on our spending, why should our government be exempt from this plan?

Wow, what a week. ... not the time of the year for 1200 miles of car travel in Texas .... this is going to be a scorcher this year ... Spent an wonderful couple of days at a Bed and Breakfast in Austin. You can't call them a Bed and Board any longer ... because they don't "board" you, they just give you breakfast. It was very enjoyable and relaxing ... The place was quiet, clean and best of all the owners left us alone to do whatever we felt like doing ... my kind of place .. .I hope I can find others out there that are just as pleasant. I was telling the owner, about writing this column over a cup of coffee and he told me he had something funny he wanted me to read .... My wife and I were sitting on a swing on the upstairs porch drinking coffee as we went over what you are about to read .... I have to tell you both of our sides hurt from laughing so hard .... I wish I could take credit for having written this ... but, I can't...I do hope you find this as funny as we did ...

I balance, I weave, I dodge, I frolic, and my bills are all paid. On weekends, to let off steam, I participate in full contact origami. Years ago, I discovered the meaning of life but forgot to write it down. I have made extraordinary four course meals using only a mouli and a toaster oven.
I have won bullfights in San Juan, cliff-diving competitions in Sri Lanka, and spelling bees at the Kremlin. I have played Hamlet, I have performed open-heart surgery, and I have spoken to Elvis.
But, I have not gone to college.
He was accepted.

Healthcare and Election 08 MP Hill

I have looked at the choices of the Health Care plans suggested by Senator McCain and Senator Obama.  At the end of looking into them I am struck by one significant difference which I find alarming and unacceptable—“government sponsored” being part of Obama’s plan.

 
    Who really thinks that anything run by the government is better for the people?  I don’t and no one else should either.  In the words of President Reagan, “Man is not free unless government is limited. There’s a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: As government expands, liberty contracts.”  He also said, “Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them.”

 
    You see, Obama says that his health care plan is not mandatory but if you had been listening to him during the debates you would know that is temporary.  He wants it to eventually cover everyone and for that to work he would have to make it mandatory.  He also wants employers to offer insurance to their employees.  If he makes that mandatory how many people do you think employers will have to terminate in order to cover the additional cost of insurance?  And what if you are one of them?


    Granted McCain’s plan may not be perfect but is there is no perfect way to solve a problem that is so far out of control, but more government intervention and higher taxes certainly won’t do any good for anyone, especially when it results in more people out of work and on government entitlement programs.  
   

Obama’s plan is a step toward socialized medicine, there’s no doubt about it.  And, if you aren’t aware of how bad socialized medicine really is, then check out how the Canadian health care is.  While you are at it, you might ask yourself why so many Canadians come here for health care, especially for surgeries they can’t get at home in a timely fashion if at all.  You might also look at the health care our soldiers get, both while in service and once retired.  You see, military medicine is socialized medicine and if you haven’t heard, they don’t get the care they desperately need—and they are the ones getting shot defending your right to remain free.

 
    What we should be doing, rather than signing up for more socialized government intervention in our lives, is fighting for our soldiers to have better health care—which would be to allow them to seek medical care outside of the socialized system they are trapped in as they lay writhing in pain or slowly dying waiting for a procedure or a surgery for days or weeks which they would only have to wait hours for in any non-military hospital in this country.

    
    Do what is right, for your children, for your grandchildren, and for those who risk their lives so you have the right to make the choice—vote against Barack Hussein Obama and socialized medicine.  Ronald Reagan was right when he said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”  And we must never forget it.
