AMERICA’S NEW ANTHEM -----“WHAT HAVE WE DONE” by Gen. Jim Cash

After all the warnings, hand wringing, and savage talk, America chose to do what would never be thought possible only a few years ago---elect a far-left President and Congress hell-bent on "CHANGING" this country into a Socialist State. Sometimes, I wonder how many Americans understand what this really means. My thoughts initially were to give the new President a chance, and not make snap decisions based on out-of-control rhetoric during the campaign. Well, that worked well, and now we are beginning to see that the President is doing exactly what he promised during the campaign, and NO ONE LISTENED!!! The masses were overwhelmed with silver-tongued, no-logic promises that most knew could never be fulfilled.

Soon, the American people will have witnessed enough of this madness. They are a smart lot, and when they have seen enough they will start to ask the big question, "WHAT HAVE WE DONE"? However, the real question will be, "IS IT TOO LATE"?

I do not wish to dwell on the multitude of mistakes that have already been made during the first 60 days of this administration, both foreign and domestic. It must be obvious even to the fiscally irresponsible far-left that the nation is heading unimpeded toward bankruptcy. We hear the President speak often of the deficit. He is not talking about the national debt. He is talking about the rate in which we are increasing the debt. So when he says he will cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term, he is actually saying he will cut the rate at which the debt is increasing by the end of his first term. That is absolutely not good enough. Even Bill Clinton, with the help of a Republican Congress, showed a surplus in deficit spending for a short period. That is accomplished only when you have a growing economy. Now equate that to our economic situation today, and it is obvious this is just another fabrication conjured up by this administration. AMERICANS WAKE UP before it is too late. It is highly probably that the debt is not repayable even as we speak, and it is growing at the most alarming rate in history. Just the annual interest on the current debt is larger than our annual military budget.

Even more frightening is the fact that the President and his cross-party impaired Secretary of Defense have decided to reduce the capability of our military by cutting funding for many badly needed weapon systems, which were designed to replace old and worn out existing systems. The US Air Force F-22 comes to mind. A bird designed to provide Air Superiority for the next 50 years. The initial contract for this system was for near 700 aircraft. It has been cut to 183 now, and possible even will be ended early. Thank you far-left politicians, as your timing is great. Again, as during the Jimmy Carter years, you are cutting our military in favor of increasing welfare and social programs. At least when Jimmy Carter did his infamous magic act, we were not facing a major threat. However, today we face the most serious threat to this nation since WWII. For goodness sake, what part of this does Obama, Clinton, Pelosi, Reed, Schumer, Murtha, Kerry, Durbin, Maxine, Waxman, Boxer, Feinstein, (and on and on), not understand.

Now, here is a strange, new thought. Why not put a large portion of that stimulus money toward expanding and equipping our military. Many good folks who were there will tell you that the Great Depression was ended because of our war production preparing to enter WWII, not the mumbling and bungling of FDR. I believe this to be true, so why not kill several birds with one stone. Why not stimulate the economy by rebuilding/expanding the greatest institution in this country, our US Military. At the same time we would be rebuilding deterrence capable of defeating conventional enemies on two fronts without stressing our forces, as our civilian-leader-developed doctrine has dictated throughout the history of this nation. Why not rebuild an infrastructure capable of producing again, save the auto manufacturing capability and put people back to work. Was it Ronald Reagan who said, "There has never been a nation attacked because it was too strong"? And, oh by the way, talking to, and appeasing Middle-East terrorist---please give me a break!!! These are complex times, but they warrant simple answers that work. It will be fun to watch the far-left spin this one, as their lame brained approach continues to fail!

Conservatives out number the far-left by large numbers, and I realize I am preaching to the choir. I spent the majority of my adult life wearing the uniform of this country, and I still bear allegiance to the oath I took many years ago to "defend this nation against all enemies, both foreign and domestic". That is why I continue to utter phrases such as, "How many times have you heard the phrase, AMERICA WAKE UP"??? Well, it is time for AMERICA TO WAKE UP, before the dream has ended. There was a lot of prepping and planning over a long period of time to get us to the devilish point we are at today, and it will take serious thought and effort if we are to reverse it. Because conservatives have the numbers, it is possible to turn this around, but they must wake up and act. I am absolutely sure there are some good clear-thinking Democrats out there who feel the same. Together, with our combined power of the vote, we can fix this, and the parties can begin to work together again for the benefit of this great nation.

Let’s take it one step at a time. First, it is imperative that we restore some form of check-and-balance to our government. Again, I know there are many great Democrats and Republicans out there who understand the problem, and want to restore this country to its path of greatness. I am neither, but I am a conservative who understands the danger of any political party possessing a majority in all three branches of government. A one-party system is simply a dictatorship. The overwhelming threat today is that the controlling party is a well financed, far-left, Socialist group who have gained control of the Democratic Party. It is so essential that the people, both Democrat and Republican, take a close look at what is happening. This movement can be brought to a crawl, or maybe even stopped, simply by real Americans going to the polls and casting a sensible vote. This next election cycle is crucial to the future of America. Common sense must prevail!!! It will go against all odds, but achieving a majority in the US Senate by the Republican Party is the only way to restore the common-sensed check-and-balance system that has made this country great. If the roles were reversed, and the Republicans Party was dominant, the same would be true.

In summary, the solution for the short term is simple. Clear thinking Democrats and Republicans, both, have a duty to do what is right for America. They should band together to create a Congress that represents all the people, that is accepting of new ideas and listens to the people. With the current crop of self-indulgent politicians in Washington today, it is impossible to adopt "term limits", which are part of the long term solution. However, it is possible to vote for more equity in maintaining a true two-party system. So, if you are beginning to question what is happening to our country under the current administration, and on the fence about what can be done, make the question of maintaining a viable the two-party system a major consideration when casting your vote in the next election. THE FUTURE OF OUR KIDS DEPENDS UPON IT!!!!

A Nation of Fools by Peary Perry 03-25-09

Well, you have to give Barack Obama credit for one thing.

No other president that I know of in history has managed to screw up so much in such a short period of time. He is the champion.

Where to start?

How about his screw up with the teleprompter (you know that device he uses whenever his mouth moves) when the Irish Premier was in town. The Irish Premier got confused reading from the teleprompter and Obama stepped in to help out. Lots have been written about who said what and so forth. I suppose my question is simply this….when will we ever see Obama WITHOUT a teleprompter? Last nights news conference showed that he is obviously aware of the fact that everyone knows he is dependent on this device. Last night he moved (not very effectively) the teleprompter from a desk model to one about the size of a drive in movie screen at the back of the room….see http://features.csmonitor.com/politics/2009/03/24/obama-ditches-teleprompter-for-drive-in-theater-movie-screen/

Anyone recall what he did to Gordon Brown (UK Prime Minister) when he was here a few weeks ago? Generally the two heads of state exchange gifts that have some meaning. Brown brought Obama a pen made from the wood of a ship that had historical meaning. Obama gave Brown 25 DVD’s of American movies. Wow…. is this significant or what? As if Brown could not afford to buy these for himself. A gift from Walmart. How touching. I’m certain old Gordon will hang onto those for years to come. What was the historical significance of DVD movies to one of our strongest allies? What about his removal of the statue of Churchill from the Oval office and its return to England? If he didn’t want it in his office, why not just put it somewhere else but not send it back as if was an abomination to him? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/02/22/obama-returns-churchill-b_n_168919.html

Last week one of the Polish ministers took Rep. Ellen Tauscher, D-Calif. To task for the United States reluctance to honor a missile treaty that had been signed last year. See http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/03/24/clinton-seeks-reassure-poland-missile-shield/

for details. It seems the current administration has decided that the US might not go along with its previous plans for the deployment of missiles in Poland. Of course the fact that an agreement and a treaty was signed apparently has little meaning to our new president. The Polish minister was quoted as saying their country did not trust the United States to live up to their obligations. Way to go, Team Obama.

Next up is Mexico. As we know their economy is not in the best of shape and anything to disrupt their current efforts only makes the ever increasing drug cartels stronger. But no matter that the United States signed a agreement called NAFTA some years ago to promote trade, our man Obama is once again Johnny-on-the-spot in declaring parts of the agreement to be anti-labor unions in the US. So, what does Mexico do? Well, they retaliate by slapping us with tariffs on importation of our products. Boy, does this make a lot of sense? Of course Obama has to dance with the one who brought him and I’m certain the teamsters are sending notes to his Blackberry right and left.

http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1887494,00.html

How can I forget Canada? Obama’s advisor, Larry Summers states that ‘I hope he (Obama) doesn’t believe what he says’.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0309/Summers_hoped_Obama_doesnt_believe_what_he_says_on_NAFTA.html

Say what? One of your closest advisors is hoping you don’t really believe what you are saying? I’m sorry; I must be missing something here. If you are the leader of the greatest super power on our planet, shouldn’t people take you serious when you say something? Isn’t part of your job description your ability to be believed when you say something? What do you think would have happened in 1940 if FDR had told the French and the British that ‘we are here to help’ and then changed his mind later and said something like… ‘I was only kidding’ you guys go on ahead and fight Hitler by yourself.

I am running out of time and have to finish up by referring to Obama and his ever increasing adversarial roles with France, Germany, Russia and oh, yes… China. When the French start lecturing us (The US) on how to CUT taxes and improve the business community, you know the world has indeed gone mad. The upcoming G20 summit should be an opportunity for those more in tune with reality to upstage Obama’s quest for ‘entertainer of the year’.

Stayed tuned, interesting days we live in.

Letters From North America 03-24-09 Peary Perry

If I had to guess, I’d say that over the years, I’ve written more columns about the differences between men and women and how they think. Or how they don’t think.

For example, we didn’t get a chance to sort everything out from our house before we moved. Now we’re trying to do it after we’ve moved in. Not the best option and one to avoid if there is anyway possible. This should be one of the cardinal rules taught to young men who are about to be married for the first time. I’ve gone over these many times in the past and will likely do another column on them again in the future. These include taking notes on the day you get engaged. Copious notes about everything, the weather, where you went to dinner, what table you sat at, the waiters name, and most of all how your intended wore her hair and what she was wearing. This will come up in later conversations and there will be a test. I cannot over emphasize this to you at this time. You may think she doesn’t remember where you parked your car and in which direction it was pointed, but she does and she will ask you about it, trust me on this one.

Anyway, once you’re married, she’ll begin to collect and save things you cannot begin to imagine. You give her a Valentines Day card? She’ll save it. Birthday cards? Never thrown away. Mothers Day cards? She’ll keep them until she dies and then they’ll pass onto someone else, God only knows who. I have friends who have cards dating back to the twelfth century and earlier which have been handed down from one generation to another. I would think a ‘get well’ card from Genghis Khan would be worth something, but then again, what do I know? The point is that your wife will have stuff hidden away throughout your house for years in places you cannot imagine even existed. Women could write books about where to hide things that the DEA and FBI would never find.

They will never throw away any photographs, especially of your children. If one of your kids is sitting on a tree stump in the middle of the woods some where and you cannot figure out where or when the picture was taken, it will not be thrown away. It will stay in a box, hidden along with small pieces of ribbon (for what?) baby teeth, snippets of hair and a hundred other items which men will throw away without any sense of guilt, but not a mother. She keeps all of the photographs ever taken of any member of her family no matter if they make any sense or not, it’s a Mom thing. It’s called (MGS) Mothers Guilt Syndrome, men aren’t affected by this.

Your child can be fifty years old and their mother will still have their drawings from the first grade. It’s amazing how long finger painted pictures can last. I’d bet Rembrandts mother kept all of his stuff in a closet somewhere. My wife found some essays written by our youngest son when he was about nine or ten. Of course we had to read them all again. One of his made the statement that "Rocks are found nearly everywhere." I’m thinking there isn’t a place that I know of on Earth where there isn’t a rock. Of course, for a ten year old, the things he wrote were pretty good.

I found her box of Christmas bows and ribbons in the attic and threw them out. She buys new ones each year anyway, since she can’t remember where she hid last years supply. We had bows and ribbons made of stone, they were really, really that old. Just kidding.

That brings up another problem. Often times they hide stuff so well; they can’t recall where they put things. This causes a marriage calamity I call ‘overbuying.’ This situation happens when you can’t find something so you go buy another one, then you end up with two of the same things. But since you don’t put either one in the same place, your house lapses into a sort of ‘home-style Bermuda triangle.’ Things you know you have will disappear and will never reappear until you move into another house. If you don’t want to move then you might have to take the drastic measure of pulling everything out of your house and stacking it in the front yard just to see what you have on hand. If you have to take this type of action, I caution you to check the weather forecast. As well as advising the neighbors of your intentions and that you are not being evicted.

Anyway, I’ve got to run…she’s found a box of report cards which she wants to go over for the remainder of the afternoon.

Quo Warranto: CItizen's Open Letter to Jeffrey Taylor

Following is my letter to US Attorney Jeffery Taylor.  I wrote this letter to encourage him to look into the legitimacy of Barack Obama's Right to occupy the Office of the President.

Here are a couple of links where you can get the background information on the Constitutional Precedent that enables Mr. Jeffery Taylor to demand that Mr. Obama provide a vault copy of his Birth Certificate.

I encourage each of you to write Mr. Taylor and express your desire to end the confusion surrounding Barack Hussain Obama.  Feel free to use my letter as template to write your own.  Remember to be polite and respectful, he is our Public Servant we are empowered as Citizens, to contact him and should do so with civility!

 Following is my letter:

United States Attorney Jeffery Taylor

US Attorney's Office

555 4th Street

Washington, DC 20530

Dear United States Attorney Jeffery Taylor :

As a citizen of the United States of America and person who deeply loves my country, I have a deep concern about a storm that is brewing within the ranks of our Military.  It has come to my attention that many members of our Armed Services are conflicted when it comes to the legitimacy of Mr. Barack Obama’s presidency.  The oath taken by each and every member of our Armed Forces includes the phrase “to uphold the Constitution and to obey the orders of the President of the United States of America”.

During the Primary Elections of 2008, the subject of Mr. Obama’s birth came into question and was swept under the carpet without answer.  During the race for President leading up to the General Election, the same concern was expressed and again went unanswered.  Now we find ourselves asking if Mr. Obama has the Right to occupy the position he now holds.  To date, Mr. Obama has not provided proof of his status as a Natural Born Citizen and this is the cause of many problems including the actions of our Military men and women.  Not only does this affect our fighting men and women, it also affects each and every American under his authority.

Sir, it is of utmost importance that this question be answered in short order.  All that is required of Mr. Obama is for him to produce a valid original vault copy of his Birth Certificate to settle this dispute.  However, Mr. Obama and his Administration have gone to great lengths not to provide this proof.  I ask you: Why have they done this if his claim is legitimate? Furthermore, how can our Military men and women continue to risk their lives when in doing so violates their Oath of Service?

The fact is that there is a need for this nation to hear and resolve the issue of Barack Obama’s eligibility for office. I base this statement on the Constitutional requirement (Section 1, Article 2 of the US Constitution: No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States ) calling for the President to retain a special status of Natural Born Citizen in order to qualify for eligibility to that office, I have reviewed the definition of Natural Born Citizen as written in the Federal Papers by Justice John Jay. This definition of citizenship goes back centuries! Nowhere in history is Natural Born Citizen defined in such a way that would allow a person with divided loyalties to become President! It is a fact that Obama was born a subject of the British Crown. He openly admits his father was a British Subject at the time of his birth.  Here are a few references to the term Natural Born Citizen:

·         1758 Vattel’s “The Law of Nations” –The Framers relied on many of the principles to write the Constitution

·         1787-1788-The Federalist Papers, including Justice John Jay’s letter to George Washington

·         Article II, Section I, United States Constitution

·         The Naturalization Act of 1790-repeal of “Natural Born” from the 1790 Act in 1795

·         The Framers of the 14th Amendment-(citizenship granted, not Natural Born Citizenship); Rep. John Bingham and Sen. Lyman Trumball define Natural Born Citizen

·         Congressional Hearing on Dual Citizenship, 2005, “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” discussion

This issue will not go away, in fact it will become larger and larger each day this question remains unanswered.  I do not need to tell you what could happen if our Military was paralyzed due to uncountable Law Suits and Legal Filings.

Our Founding Fathers’ provided a Separation of Powers within our government as a stop measure against tyranny.  This separation places you as United States Attorney in the position to pursue this matter. Federal statute (Chapter 35§ 16-3501) for quo warranto was tailor made by the legislature to challenge any person occupying any public office of the United States under questionable title thereto.  Only two people have the authority to legally challenge Mr. Obama’s right to the Office of the President, Attorney General Eric Holder and you as US Attorney for the District of Columbia.   Here are a few other points of reference:

·         Only one of these officials need bring the action in quo warranto.

·         The federal quo warranto statute provides the only Constitutional means by which a sitting President may be removed by the Judicial branch.

·         Congress has provided for the removal of a sitting President found to be ineligible by enacting the federal quo warranto statute.

·         Constitution Article 2, Section 1, Clause 6. “In Case of the Removal of the President from Office, or of his Death, Resignation, or Inability to discharge…”. Note the word “or”.

·         Congress is authorized to exercise removal power by the 25th Amendment - and such power must be derived directly from Article 2 Section 1 Clause 6.

·         SCOTUS is not a trier of fact and so quo warranto MUST be brought before the District Court for the District of Columbia EXACTLY as the statute requires.

·         Quo warranto action is proper to settle title to the office of President for the good of the nation.

CONCLUSION: The District of Columbia Code is the only means by which a federal quo warranto action can be instituted and its application is strictly limited to public offices of the United States or local DC offices within the ten square miles of the District of Columbia. No public office, i.e. POTUS, is exempt by the statute.

I do not write to you today to convince you that Mr. Obama is not eligible to occupy the Office of President.  I write to you to humbly ask you to act in the best interest of this nation and put this matter behind us once and for all.  I don’t need to remind you of the huge amount of tax dollars that will be spent if thousands of cases are filed across the nation.  By acting in the best interest of our nation during tough economic times and settling this matter now, We the People will not need to waste our hard earned tax dollars on pointless court proceedings.

Respectfully,

What a message from a Marine

From Paul Vallely, Standupamericausa.com

This Marine seems to hit all the salient points......

Robert A. Hall is a Marine Vietnam veteran who served five terms in the Massachusetts state senate.

I'll be 63 soon. Except for one semester in college when jobs were scarce, and a six-month period when I was between jobs, but job-hunting every day, I've worked, hard, since I was 18. Despite some health challenges, I still put in 50-hour weeks, and haven't called in sick in seven or eight years. I make a good salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, there's no retirement in sight, and I'm tired. Very tired.

I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth around" to people who don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy or stupid to earn it.

I'm tired of being told that I have to pay more taxes to "keep people in their homes." Sure, if they lost their jobs or got sick, I'm willing to help. But if they bought McMansions at three times the price of our paid-off, $250,000 condo, on one-third of my salary, then let the leftwing Congresscritters who passed Fannie and Freddie and the Community Reinvestment Act that created the bubble help them-with their own money.

I'm tired of being told how bad America is by leftwing millionaires like Michael Moore, George Soros and Hollywood entertainers who live in luxury because of the opportunities America offers. In thirty years, if they get their way, the United States will have the religious freedom and women's rights of Saudi Arabia, the economy of Zimbabwe, the freedom of the press of China, the crime and violence of Mexico, the tolerance for Gay people of Iran, and the freedom of speech of Venezuela. Won't multiculturalism be beautiful?

I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family "honor;" of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't "believers;" of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery;" of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and Shari'a law tells them to.

I believe "a man should be judged by the content of his character, not by the color of his skin." I'm tired of being told that "race doesn't matter" in the post-racial world of President Obama, when it's all that matters in affirmative action jobs, lower college admission and graduation standards for minorities (harming them the most), government contract set-asides, tolerance for the ghetto culture of violence and fatherless children that hurts minorities more than anyone, and in the appointment of US Senators from Illinois. I think it's very cool that we have a black president and that a black child is doing her homework at the desk where Lincoln wrote the emancipation proclamation. I just wish the black president was Condi Rice, or someone who believes more in freedom and the individual and less in an all-knowing government.

I'm tired of a news media that thinks Bush's fundraising and inaugural expenses were obscene, but that think Obama's, at triple the cost, were wonderful. That thinks Bush exercising daily was a waste of presidential time, but Obama exercising is a great example for the public to control weight and stress, that picked over every line of Bush's military records, but never demanded that Kerry release his, that slammed Palin with two years as governor for being too inexperienced for VP, but touted Obama with three years as senator as potentially the best president ever.

Wonder why people are dropping their subscriptions or switching to Fox News? Get a clue. I didn't vote for Bush in 2000, but the media and Kerry drove me to his camp in 2004.

I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let Saudi Arabia use our oil money to fund mosques and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in America, while no American group is allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia to teach love and tolerance.

I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate. My wife and I live in a two-bedroom apartment and carpool together five miles to our jobs. We also own a three-bedroom condo where our daughter and granddaughter live. Our carbon footprint is about 5% of Al Gore's, and if you're greener than Gore, you're green enough.

I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses while they tried to fight it off? I don't think Gay people choose to be Gay, but I damn sure think druggies chose to take drugs. And I'm tired of harassment from cool people treating me like a freak when I tell them I never tried marijuana.

I'm tired of illegal aliens being called "undocumented workers," especially the ones who aren't working, but are living on welfare or crime. What's next? Calling drug dealers, "Undocumented Pharmacists"? And, no, I'm not against Hispanics. Most of them are Catholic and it's been a few hundred years since Catholics wanted to kill me for my religion. I'm willing to fast track for citizenship any Hispanic person who can speak English, doesn't have a criminal record and who is self-supporting without family on welfare, or who serves honorably for three years in our military. Those are the citizens we need.

I'm tired of latte liberals and journalists, who would never wear the uniform of the Republic themselves, or let their entitlement-handicapped kids near a recruiting station, trashing our military. They and their kids can sit at home, never having to make split-second decisions under life and death circumstances, and bad mouth better people then themselves. Do bad things happen in war? You bet. Do our troops sometimes misbehave? Sure. Does this compare with the atrocities that were the policy of our enemies for the last fifty years-and still are? Not even close. So here's the deal. I'll let myself be subjected to all the humiliation and abuse that was heaped on terrorists at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo, and the critics can let themselves be subject to captivity by the Muslims who tortured and beheaded Daniel Pearl in Pakistan, or the Muslims who tortured and murdered Marine Lt. Col. William Higgins in Lebanon, or the Muslims who ran the blood-spattered Al Qaeda torture rooms our troops found
in Iraq, or the Muslims who cut off the heads of schoolgirls in Indonesia, because the girls were Christian. Then we'll compare notes. British and American soldiers are the only troops in history that civilians came to for help and handouts, instead of hiding from in fear.

I'm tired of people telling me that their party has a corner on virtue and the other party has a corner on corruption. Read the papers-bums are bi-partisan. And I'm tired of people telling me we need bi-partisanship. I live in Illinois, where the "Illinois Combine" of Democrats and Republicans has worked together harmoniously to loot the public for years. And I notice that the tax cheats in Obama's cabinet are bi-partisan as well.

I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of both parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

Speaking of poor, I'm tired of hearing people with air-conditioned homes, color TVs and two cars called poor. The majority of Americans didn't have that in 1970, but we didn't know we were "poor." The poverty pimps have to keep changing the definition of poor to keep the dollars flowing.

I'm real tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives and actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination, or big-whatever for their problems.

Yes, I'm damn tired. But I'm also glad to be 63. Because, mostly, I'm not going to get to see the world these people are making. I'm just sorry for my granddaughter.

GENTLEMAN / GUNS / EQUAL by Jim Murphy

Wednesday - March 11, 2009

Greetings from the West Texas Jingoistic Association For Gun Clinging Smear Merchants.

GENTLEMAN:

This week I received some sad news out of Hobbs, New Mexico. The father of one of my good friends passed away. The man's name was James Burton Veteto. The obituary did not give his age but I am sure he was in his mid - late eighties. I hear the term "Gentleman or Gentlemen" use quite a bit and I am sure that it fits with some and not with others. But I lived in Hobbs, New Mexico for 30 years and knew quite a few who deserved the title of "Gentleman". Mr. Veteto was certainly one of them. I was close with his son Mark who I try to see every time I return to Hobbs for a visit. Mr. Veteto always treated me with kindness and I know he was well respected in the community. He was a very successful businessman and I valued his opinion on most matters. I saw him often when I visited with another very good friend who was his neighbor. Every time I hear the term "Gentleman" used I try to think of all of the people with whom I was fortunate to come into contact, who happen to fit that description. Mr. James Burton Veteto is always one who comes to my mind. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family on this day.

EQUAL:

There was an article this week in our local newspaper, "The (Sub) Standard Times" [for those of you residing in the 'People's Republic of San Francisco, the (Sub) was my own addition]. This particular story dealt with an Iranian woman who now lives in Spain. This woman, in 2004, had acid thrown in her eyes causing her blindness in both eyes. Well the wonderful Islamic court system in Iran has ruled that the victim was entitled to blind the defendant, BUT she was only entitled to blind the man who had blinded her in only one eye. This is according to the Islamic law system of "quisas", or an eye-for-an-eye retribution. Because in Iran each man is worth two women she is only entitled to pour acid in one of his eyes. What a great system. Religion of Peace my backside. Every time I hear some politician sounding off about the Nation of Islam being a "Religion of Peace" I want to send them to one of those countries to live for a year or so and see if they come back with the same attitude.

GUNS:

Last week end I attended a gun show here in San Angelo, Texas. Of course the cost of firearms was pretty much through the roof as were the prices on ammunition. I was looking for some .30 carbine ammunition and did not find much but what I did find was priced way too high. A box of 50 that I had purchased a couple of years back for about $10 -$12 per box was now at $38.00 per box. $38.00 was the cheapest I saw.

While finding most of the firearms and all of the ammunition a bit overpriced I did get to visit with my friend Ben English from Ozona, Texas and on Sunday I got to visit with young Ethan English who has received an appointment to the US NAVAL ACADEMY. His older brother, Levi English has been attending the Naval Academy for two years. What a great thing to happen. Two fine young men attending one of our Service Academies and both from the same family. I am sure it is not a first but it is a first for someone I know. I know their father Ben, and their mother Carol are plenty proud of those two young men and justifiably so.

MISCELLANEOUS:

I am sure this week that we have all heard of British Prime Minister Gordon Brown's visit to President Obama. Of course as I understand how things work, there is normally a gift exchange. Now keep in mind that Great Britain is absolutely our closest ally, at least they were up until this visit. British Prime Minister gave President Obama an ornamental desk-pen holder hewn from the timbers of one of the Royal Navy's anti-slaving ships of the 19th century, HMS Gannet. Even more appropriate, in 1909 the Gannet was renamed the HMS President. Prime Minister Brown additionally presented to President Obama a framed commission for HMS Resolute, the lost British ship retrieved from the Arctic and returned by America to London, and whose timbers were used for a thank-you gift from Queen Victoria to President Rutherford B. Hayes. The gift was the handsome desk that now sits in the Oval Office. Now to round things out, Gordon Brown gave President Obama a first edition of Sir Martin Gilbert's seven-volume biography of Winston Churchill.

So what does our new President give as his gift to Prime Minister Brown? Well let me tell you he really went all out in the gift giving department. Yes sir he presented Prime Minister Brown a 25 DVD set of "Classic American Movies". What a joke. I guess he could have thrown in a couple of signed copies of "Dream Of My Father" and "Audacity Of Hope". Perhaps the Prime Minister needs a couple of door stops.

Has everybody noticed this past week or so how China, North Korea, Russia and several other countries have been testing our will? Now I don't know whether or not the U.S. Naval ship was on a scientific expedition or what but the point is, they were in INTERNATIONAL WATERS. It seems as if perhaps Joseph Biden might have accidentally been correct about something. Wasn't it Biden who said that Barack Obama would be tested by other countries within his first year? Well if you ask me, up to this point the President has pretty much failed. While these other countries are kicking sand in our face, our President is busy lying to us about earmarks, pork, lobbyists, and fiscal responsibility.

But not to worry. I heard Vice President Joseph Biden making a statement about our President being ready to have talks with, "THE TALIBAN". Hey! Wait a minute! I thought the Taliban was who was killing our troops in Afghanistan. Must be another Taliban.

Earlier this week I was listening to the radio and heard several audio clips of liberals who supported Obama in the election talking in a negative manner about our President's stimulus plan. Then today I heard that there is another stimulus plan waiting in the wings.

OK. Let me get this straight. We have:

The Stimulus Plan

The Stimulus Plan II

I have an idea, why stop there why don't we consider making it like a movie series:

The Stimulus Plan

The Return of the Stimulus Plan

Abbot and Costello Meet The Stimulus Plan

The Stimulus Plan Goes To Disney Land

The Stimulus Plan At The Beach

Stimulus Plan Bingo

The Stimulus Plan On Elm Street

I could go on but I think seven should get the idea across.

KEYNES AT HARVARD: Published - 1960

I have heard a number of programs this past week where the term "Keynesian Socialism" was used. So here are a few thoughts regarding this type of socialism:

"As mentioned by Clarence W. Barron in 1918, Keynes is a Socialist that does not believe in the family. Naturally, in order to control the birth rate the State must BREAK UP THE FAMILY as an independent and free unit. Private enterprise in running family, in other words must also be subject to socialized control.

Keynes' close friend and official biographer, R.F. Harrod, wrote: He (Keynes) was not a great friend of the profit motive; he found something unsatisfactory in the quest for gain as such, and came to the hope that an economic system might be evolved in which it was curtailed."

"With the defeat of Hoover and the election of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Keynes' American left-wing friends climbed into positions of great power.----------------- For years it had been a point of Socialist strategy that complete government control of currency and all money and currency values is a chief lever in moving society toward REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH AND COMPLETE SOCIALISM."

Any of this starting to sound familiar?

Remember, Franklin D. Roosevelt has been given credit for ending "The Great Depression" through his "New Deal" policies. Also keep in mind that the "Great Depression" did not end with the election of FDR. As a matter of fact, I read where the unemployment rate under FDR was in double digits until WW II.

Any way you look at it, Barack Hussein Obama is a Socialist to the core. I hope you all heard the tape of the telephone conversation Obama had with a NY Times reporter. The call was made after an interview with the NY Times and Obama was asked a question about his being Socialist. Evidently he didn't think his answer during the interview, or probably more correctly some staff member advised him, that his answer during the regular interview was way weak. So President Obama made a telephone call to try to salvage that part of the interview. Keep also in mind that at this point he was not relying on a tele-prompter and he stuttered around and sounded very Un Presidential.

Last week when I was writing about Mr. Paul Harvey and also mentioned some other folks who had distinctive and very recognizable voices and of course I realized I had left some out and immediately after punching the send button I realized that I had left a couple off who really should have been on the list:

One was Winston Hibbler. Mr. Hibbler was the narrator of the early Walt Disney "True Life Adventure" films: The African Lion; The Living Desert; The Vanishing Prairie; White Wilderness and several more. If you went to movies during the 1950s you had to have seen these classic films.

And I don't know how I forgot John Facenda. Mr. Facenda was the voice behind NFL Films. He had a most distinctive voice and style. Mr. Facenda died sometime in the late 1970's I believe. Anyone who ever heard him can appreciate how great he really was.

Now I have read and heard of many areas in which a bunch of these silly earmark funds are to be spent. I can only wonder WHY, no one in Congress or the White House wants an answer to this riveting question:

Pluto is a dog and is Mickey Mouse's pet.

Goofy is a dog and is Mickey Mouse's best friend.

So how come Goofy can talk and Pluto can't? Inquiring minds want to know.

See y'all next week.

Hillary Repeating Past Mistakes: The Ultimate - and Still Unforeseen - Dangers of a Palestinian State

By: Louis René Beres

Date: Wednesday, March 11 2009

In Washington, there has been little learned from lessons of the past.

On March 3, Hillary Clinton said that the Obama Administration will "vigorously pursue" the creation of a Palestinian state. Further, continued the Secretary of State, movement toward Palestinian independence now seems "inescapable."

But, for the United States "Palestine" would represent just another enemy state. Although fragmented by endless civil war, Fatah and Hamas would both seek closer ties to Iran. Very quickly, there would also be substantial collaborations with al-Qaeda - ties that are now already being fashioned in Hamas-controlled Gaza.

How soon we forget. On September 11th, celebrations were ecstatic all over Gaza and West Bank, in areas controlled by Hamas and Fatah. Today, nothing has changed. America, despite its consistently misplaced largesse, is still widely loathed in all Palestinian territories.

Predictably, Ms. Clinton's stubborn adherence to clichéd wisdom will backfire before she can provide additional excuses for Palestinian independence. Despite their uninterrupted pleas for statehood, the Palestinians always manage to stand stubbornly in their own way. Time after time, whenever they seem on the threshold of what appears to be a proper legal entity, their strife-addicted leaders unleash new and unproductive spasms of random violence. Over time, this collective self-destructiveness has been characteristic of both Fatah and Hamas, sometimes even when the two terrorist organizations are systematically warring with each other.

The Obama administration seems determined to repeat past American mistakes. Even after Israel's necessary Operation Cast Lead, and even while Israel's cease fire with Hamas must remain effectively unilateral because of intransigent Palestinian commitments to Jihad (Gaza-based terrorists are still sending rockets into Israel), it asks that a Palestinian state be carved from the still-living body of Israel. This rabidly anti-American 23rd Arab state would quickly seek extension across the "green line." The official Palestine Authority (PA) map of "moderate" Fatah already shows all of Israel asthe state of "Palestine."

Israel remains the very front line of anti-terrorist engagement for the United States and for the West in general. It is still the principal "canary" in the mine. In this connection, any Palestinian state would have an injurious effect on Israel's survival. After "Palestine," Israel's security would require (1) a far more comprehensive nuclear strategy involving deterrence, preemption and war fighting capabilities; and (2) a corollary and interpenetrating conventional war strategy. Without such strategic improvements, America would be at far greater risk than before.

"Palestine" would affect these two core strategies in several ways. It would enlarge Israel's need for "escalation dominance." With Israel's conventional capabilities more doubtful, IDF command could decide to make the country's nuclear deterrent less ambiguous. Taking the Israeli bomb out of the "basement" might actually enhance Israel's security for a while, but - over time - ending "deliberate ambiguity" could also heighten the odds of nuclear weapons use. If Iran were permitted to "go nuclear," as now seems quite certain, such use might not be limited to the immediate area of Israel and "Palestine."

In the future, nuclear war could arrive in Israel not only as a "bolt-from-the-blue" surprise missile attack, but also as a result (intended or inadvertent) of escalation. If an enemy state were to begin "only" conventional and/or biological attacks upon Israel, Jerusalem might respond with nuclear reprisals. If this enemy state were to begin with solely conventional attacks upon Israel, Jerusalem's conventional reprisals might still be met in the future, with enemy nuclear counterstrikes.

Why should Israel need a conventional deterrent at all? Even after "Palestine," won't rational enemy states desist from launching conventional and/or biological attacks upon Israel for fear of an Israeli nuclear retaliation? Not necessarily. Aware that Israel would cross the nuclear threshold only in extraordinary circumstances, these enemy states could be convinced, rightly or wrongly, that so long as their attacks remained non-nuclear, Israel would only respond in kind.

After creation of "Palestine," strategic circumstances in the region would be markedly less favorable to Israel. The only credible way for Israel to deter large-scale conventional attacks following any such creation would be by maintaining visible and large-scale conventional capabilities. Naturally, enemy states contemplating first-strike attacks upon Israel using chemical and/or biological weapons are apt to take more seriously Israel's nuclear deterrent. Whether or not this nuclear deterrent had remained undisclosed could also affect Israel's strategic credibility.

A strong conventional capability will always be needed by Israel to deter or to preempt conventional attacks. Oslo and "Road Map" expectations related to "Palestine" would critically impair Israel's strategic depth and thus, the IDF's essential capacity to wage conventional warfare.

If frontline regional enemy states were to perceive Israel's own sense of expanding weakness, this could strengthen Israel's nuclear deterrent. If, however, enemy states did not see such a "sense" among Israel's key decision-makers, these states, animated by Israel's presumed conventional force deterioration, could be encouraged to attack. Logically, the result, spawned by Israel's post-"Palestine" incapacity to maintain strong conventional deterrence, could be: (1) defeat of Israel in a conventional war; (2) defeat of Israel in an unconventional chemical/biological/nuclear war; (3) defeat of Israel in a combined conventional/unconventional war; or (4) defeat of Arab/Islamic state enemiesby Israel in an unconventional war.

Ironically, for Israel, even the "successful" fourth possibility could become intolerable. The probable consequences of a regional nuclear war or even a chemical/biological war in the Middle East could be calamitous for the victor as well as the vanquished. Here, traditional notions of "victory" and "defeat" would lose all meaning. The expected dangers to Israel of any Palestinian state would outweigh any conceivable benefits.

As Israel's security is critical to our own, Secretary of State Clinton should take prompt and careful note. It is finally time for Washington to move beyond evident clichés, and toward much deeper forms of understanding.

Are You Prepared?

Canada has started a new push to have her citizens prepare 72 hour kits.  The question is: Why isn't the United States pushing the same thing?  With everything that is going on regarding the Economy, Terrorism, and Natural Disasters, we would thing our government would be pushing for her citizens to be prepared for any emergency.  Somehow, this has slipped their mind.

Take a few minutes and think about what you would do in the event of an emergency.  Do you have everything you will need to support your family for the first 72 hours in an emergency situation?  If your answer is no, you might want to look into taking an active step to fix the problem.  Visit http://www.melissapehle.com/emergency to find out more.

Press Release. Hill-Pehle Publishing

For Immediate Release

March 1st 2009, Athens, Texas

Hill-Pehle Publishing is proud to announce the release of Dick Brownings new book "A Change Of Heart"  Texas author Dick Browning tells the true story of how Father Casey Miner working with Christian Prison Ministries is bringing real reform to one Texas prison.  The system of reform being implemented at the Beto 1 Prison is bringing results in unprecidented levels. The inmates being released after living in the Faith Based Unit inside the prison are not returning to the Texas Prison System.  This is a major change to the average return rate of 70% here in Texas.

A Change of Heart details how Fr.Casey is re-training the inmates who participate in the program to be productive law abiding citizens.  This program can easily be adapted to any prison in the United States, prisons who implement this program will be accomplishing two very important things:

  1. Offering a real chance for the inmate to reform and emerge from the prison system as a citizen and not enter the free world as a criminal looking for a crime to commit.
  2. By reducing the return rate of the inmate, this system is saving the State of Texas millions of dollars.

A Change of Heart by Dick Browning is available through Amazon.com.  Order your copy today!

Funding Palestinian Terror by Thomas McInerney and Paul Vallely

Funding Palestinian terror

By

Thomas McInerney/Paul Vallely

The United States plans to offer more than $900 million to help rebuild Gaza after Israel's offensive operation and to strengthen the Western-backed Palestinian Authority, U.S. officials said on Monday. The money, which requires U.S. congressional approval, will be distributed through the seemingly dysfunctional and inefficient United Nations and other bodies and not via the Radical Islamist Group   Hamas, which rules Gaza. Hamas seems to have a unique way to get to any money that comes into Gaza, doesn’t it?

Ever since the outgoing Kadima government ended Operation Cast Lead in Gaza on January 20, the Palestinians have steadily stepped-up their missile war against Israel. Over the weekend the IDF acknowledged that six weeks later, daily Palestinian missile barrages against Israel have returned to pre-Operation Cast Lead levels. Moreover, the IDF warned that over the past six weeks, Hamas and its sister terror groups have rebuilt their missile arsenals both through imports of Iranian arms from Egypt and through local production lines. They have also brought in fairly advanced anti-aircraft missiles capable of shooting down IAF helicopters.  On Monday morning, representatives from 80 countries and international organizations convened in Sharm el-Sheikh to pledge billions of dollars in aid to Hamas-controlled Gaza. The US, represented by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, pledged $900 million in assistance. WE DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY!
But for the United States, “Palestine” would represent just another enemy state. Although fragmented by endless civil war, Fatah and Hamas would both seek closer ties to Iran. Very quickly, there would also be substantial collaborations with al-Qaeda, ties that are now already being fashioned in Hamas-controlled Gaza.
Neither the United States nor Israel have direct contact with the Islamist Hamas movement which runs Gaza and remains formally committed to the destruction of the Jewish state. "The package is still shaping up," one official said, when asked for specifics over how the money would be spent and a breakdown of old and new funding. In December, the former Bush administration said it would give $85 million to the U.N. agency that provides aid to Palestinian refugees in the West Bank, Gaza, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.

The March 2 donors' conference in Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikh resort aimed to raise humanitarian and rebuilding funds for Gaza after Israel's invasion last December to suppress rocket fire against its cities. Clinton's bid to get "substantial" funds could face an uphill battle in Congress because Hamas continues to rule Gaza and the U.S. focus is on its own souring economy.

Part of the goal of the new funding is to boost the Palestinian Authority of President Mahmoud Abbas, which controls the occupied West Bank. The United States wants Abbas's PA to play a central role in the reconstruction effort in Gaza, hoping this will increase its influence in the Hamas stronghold. Washington is also putting pressure on other donors to bolster Abbas.

After attending the conference in Egypt, Clinton is expected to go to Israel and the West Bank -- a public demonstration of Obama's promise to make Arab-Israeli peacemaking a foreign policy priority.

The U.S. government has exempted itself — and gone against its established policy on funding terror, again — from requirements to stop terror financing  continues to incite and support terrorism and provide sanctuary for known and established terrorist organizations (Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, Hezbollah and al Qaeda cells). The Sept. 24, 2001, Executive Order 13224, calls for "Blocking Property and Prohibiting Transactions With Persons Who Commit, Threaten to Commit or Support Terrorism."

Pursuant to this order in June 2003, the U.S. Agency for International Development demanded that all U.S. tax-exempt organizations partnering with Palestinian NGOs obtain from the Palestinians an antiterrorism certification, which among other things guarantees that: "The Recipient has not provided, and will take all reasonable steps to ensure that it does not and will not knowingly provide, material support or resources to any individual or entity that commits, attempts to commit, advocates, facilitates, or participates in terrorist acts, or has committed, attempted to commit, facilitated, or participated in terrorist acts."
The U.S. government has exempted itself from these requirements by ignoring the PA's continuing violations of the agreements they signed to stop terror activities and incitement for terrorism, as demonstrated by PA Minister for Civil Affairs Muhammad Dahlan's.

The PA does not stop at inciting against Israel — it also funds incitement against the United States calling for attacks against American soldiers in Iraq. The PA fully funds PA Television, which daily spreads support of terrorism and preachers of hate against Jews and Christians. Therefore, we have another violation of U.S. policy and the using of U.S. taxpayers' money to fund Islamic radicalism.    Even if the money is spent on the designated projects, funding the Palestinian Authority at a time when it continues to fund the publication of incitement against the United States does not make much sense.
Besides, why should U.S. taxpayers pay for Palestinian infrastructure while the PA itself still cannot and will not account for the billions it squandered away under Yasser Arafat?      Nonetheless, the aid money will certainly wind up in the hands of Hamas, and ultimately be used contrary to the security interests of the United States."
These omissions by the United States, while knowingly funding Palestinian terrorist groups, make a mockery of the U.S. "war on terrorism" and violate U.S. policy.

What Rights Will Be Left? by Melissa Pehle-Hill

I keep hearing about the different attacks on our rights being perpetuated by the Obama Administration.  And the rights he seems set on stripping from us are the very ones that our Founding Fathers believed to be of utmost importance, evidenced by their placement as the First and Second Amendments.

Did not the First Amendment give us the right to speak our minds and the right to gather together to share ideas?  Does not the First Amendment protect your right to worship and the time and place of your choosing, or not if you prefer?  Doesn’t the First Amendment even guarantee the right of a free press as well?  I should think the media would cherish this Amendment first and foremost—at least if they like to speak other than that which is approved by the government.  What do they really think the Fairness Doctrine is about?  The government wanting to restrict speech that they disagree with is what the Obama Administration considers to be fair.  But to who is it fair?  Why should anyone consider a one sided argument fair?  My dad always told me not to make a decision with only one side of the story—so why would they expect the entire American populace to do exactly that?  Should my dad be in Washington as an advisor since none of their parents must have taught them this fundamental principle?  In the words of President Harry Truman, “Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear.”

And then there’s the Second Amendment!  The right to keep and bear arms which springs from a very basic right to protect ourselves and our families.  Why would Obama’s administration want to attack our right to protect our families?  Thomas Jefferson said, “The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.”  Is that possibly what Obama and his cronies fear?  That the Americans they plan to break down as they destroy the economy for us and our children and take our rights one by one might rise up in protest?  If not, then what do they fear?

Don’t let them tell you they fear the high rate of crime here, or in Mexico, because with that answer they are either insulting our intelligence by thinking we would believe that off-the-mark response, or they truly are stupid enough to believe it themselves.  And if the latter is the correct one then we are in more trouble than any of us are prepared for!

Taking the guns from law-abiding citizens doesn’t reduce crime; it raises it as crime rates in England can attest to, and Washington DC for that matter.  There you have a higher chance of being killed by violence than in the war zone of Iraq.  Think about that the next time you hear anyone say gun control reduces violent crime.  And remember these words by George Washington as well, “The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that's good.”  No truer words were ever spoken—if the criminals thought that in every home might be a weapon they wouldn’t be nearly as likely to break in and risk their own lives.

Now we must stop and ask ourselves if we are ready to sacrifice not just our right to free speech and our right to protect our families but other rights as well.  Rights that are not in the Constitution but are fundamentally understood to most—the right to live!

That right is also under fire if you are a senior citizen who needs medical care in the future according to the stimulus package as it passed the Senate where the plan is to ration health care for senior citizens.  I guess the words of Bloomberg, “Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them,” indicate a very different opinion of the value of senior citizens and whether they should just put up their hands and die than the one I have.

I believe that our senior citizens have the right to live as long as God allows and they should be able to do so in the most painless and comfortable fashion that our expansive medical knowledge can make happen.  Obviously the Obama Administration feels that if they are costing money and not young enough to be a good investment then we should just let them die.

In other words, the time is truly here to speak up against all that this administration wants to do.  They want to kill our babies and our seniors.  They want to limit what we are allowed to say.  And they want to take away our ability to protect our children in their own home.  Is that the way you want things to continue to go for this country?  Or would you rather leave a legacy of freedom, life, and safety to your children and grandchildren?

Mexico Spirals Into Chaos by Paul Vallely

By: Paul E. Vallely
A Justice Department report by the National Drug Intelligence Center (NDIC) says that Mexican drug gangs pose the biggest organized crime threat to the United States.

The report, the "National Drug Threat Assessment 2009," evaluates the threat posed by illegal drugs by examining availability, production and cultivation, transportation, distribution, and demand. State and local law enforcement agencies shared information for this report through personal interviews with the National Drug Intelligence Center.

Mexican drug trafficking organizations represent the greatest organized crime threat to the United States, says the report. They control drug distribution in most U.S. cities, and they are making strides in markets they do not yet control.

The study estimates that Mexican and Colombian drug trafficking organizations make and launder between $18 billion and $39 billion in wholesale drug profits annually.

Mexican drug smugglers smuggle most of the cocaine available in the U.S. across the U.S./Mexico border.

Enhancing border control and increased awareness of drug trafficking organizations may help to control the U.S. drug market.

Mexico ranks now behind Iran as the second largest security threat to United States.

Drug cartels are pitted against each other (and Mexican law enforcement) fighting for a piece of the drug pie and violence is escalating — more than 6,000 Mexicans have been killed from such violence in 2008, double the number from 2007. There are over 70 Americans that have been kidnapped or missing.

A visit to Tijuana, Juarez, or any of the border towns/cities provides clear examples.

The U.S.’ borders are flooded with gangs, drug cartel operations, illegal immigrant flow (back and forth), murders, human trafficking and kidnappings.

Here is some of the more recent news:

# Authorities arrested a man accused of dissolving as many as 300 bodies in vats of acid for a Tijuana-based drug lord ( "El Pozolero," named after a local stew).

# Prosecutors reported three heads found in an ice box and a headless body was a discovered in a canal in Ciudad Juarez, a town known as Mexico's deadliest — just over the border from El Paso, Texas. The headless victims were policemen.

By all accounts the federal government, politicos, the military, and the police face criminal gangs dealing in methamphetamines, cocaine, marijuana, and heroin. The public is ruthlessly intimidated.

It has poured across the border into cities such as Los Angeles, El Paso, and Phoenix.

Despite this, the U.S. government fails to develop a national strategy as part of the overall national security plan to take the necessary action to protect the United States (a fence will not do the trick). Military and other aid packages to the Mexican government do not seem to help that country's stability.

The drug cartels are well armed with assault weapons, RPGs, and land mines and plenty of aircraft, SUVs and trucks to move wherever they want. They are high-tech too, using encrypted communications and night-vision goggles. They have the best means of transportation including helicopters and even mini-subs.

President Felipe Calderon is attempting change but he's up against rampant corruption that reaches deep into his government, anti-drug police, and armed forces. (Mexico's former top organized-crime cop was arrested last fall on narcotics-related corruption charges.)

Despite reforms, the judicial system is plagued by payoffs, lack of investigative resources, and overloaded courts. The police are poorly paid, equipped and trained, leaving them in dire straits battling the drug lords. Some of the cartels' foot soldiers are former military commandos that the United States trained at Fort Benning, Ga.

Mexican gangs obtain their weapons from international arms merchants, who traffic them illegally on this side of the border.

American demand for drugs (cartel gangs feed an estimated 200 U.S. cities) isn’t abating. As a result, popular support for Calderon's fight against the cartels has waned.

The widespread violence leaves many Mexicans ready to throw in the towel, saying drugs are an American problem. Mexico is a country of 110 million people and it has become a narco-controlled state.

The U.S. is by far the largest consumer of illicit drugs in the world and therefore provides a huge market for the Cartels to supply.

Like Colombia before it, Mexico is now a frontline state in fighting these problems. Programs such as the Merida Law Enforcement Initiative, a U.S.-assisted, Mexican counter-drug program, are vital to opposing the drug lords. But Merida's funding is up for renewal and Congress and the White House may not fund it.

Letters From North America by Peary Perry 03-03-09

Stick a fork in me…I’m done. I can’t think of one place on my body that doesn’t hurt. Even my hair (what’s left of it) is in pain. I’d have to feel better to die.

In case you forgot, we have spent the last week moving from one house to another one. If you get the chance to do this, take my advice and don’t. Save yourself some grief. Stay in one place for as long as you can. Buy or rent a cave and make a conscience decision not to ever move for any reason. Trust me on this.

Our main problem is that we are moving into a house that is about 1300 square feet smaller than where we have been for the past eleven years. Our stuff just won’t fit. That is it won’t fit in any convenient sense of the word. Our house looks like a furniture store. Couches and chairs stacked up in bedrooms. Boxes against the wall, pictures wrapped and laying on the floor. I think we could put a sign in the yard and sell most of this stuff without any trouble at all. Just take cash, no credit cards accepted.

We have too many books. I’ll never be able to read them all, but I hate to throw them away. War and Peace stares back at me in the morning when I am drinking coffee and reading the paper. I know one day I’ll get back into it again. Not today, I’m tired.

Throw away those magazines. I don’t know why I buy magazines with recipes; I can’t ever go back and remember which ones had the good recipe in the first place. Those financial investment and retirement guides? Chunk those, in view of today’s economy anything written longer than one week ago is old and useless. Give them to my doctor. He still has stuff in his lobby about how we can work ourselves out of the depression, the one in 1929.

No sense in keeping those diet and exercise books. They just make my eyes hurt. Throw them in the trash as well. I cleaned out the attic and the garage. Gave all of the yard stuff to the yard guys. Shovels, rakes, hoes, they can use all of them. I can’t remember the last time I dug a hole. We’re sitting on solid rock; you can’t dig holes in this part of the country. Your pet dies; you need dynamite to bury him not a shovel. Weed eaters and leaf blowers, what do I need with them? The yard guys do that stuff. I found a case of motor oil. Gave it away along with the transmission fluid and the antifreeze. I haven’t changed oil in about fifteen years. I don’t plan on starting now. Four gas cans. For what? I don’t even own a lawnmower any longer. Some kind of an exercise lounger I could never figure out how to use. One of the yard guys grabbed it in a hurry. He said his wife wanted one. I hope he’ll be happy. I hope she is happy he brought it home for her.

I have clothes that I could only wear after I have been dead for a year. Those go out as well. Those lovely polyester shirts from the disco days probably won’t be coming back into style anytime soon. Out they go. I have clothes from my fat period. Those depress me and are going out also. Goodwill is going to think these are coming from separate families. I don’t need to explain. Just run in and drop the stuff off. No questions asked. Remind myself to wear sunglasses. I don’t need a receipt.

Our youngest son was over last night and was looking over some of the stuff we are throwing away. I explained that we should have done this before we moved, but we didn’t have time. The new people wanted to move in on the day we closed. In this economy we were thrilled to sell the house. We could move everything in five hours if necessary. Our son is getting married in August and I suggested that he look into inflatable furniture. Just blow it up when you get somewhere and let the air out when you leave.

He didn’t know if they made stuff like this or not, but I think it’s a great idea. I could sure be happy with a blow up couch about now. We have one that is too big for the doors so we will have to have one of the windows removed in order to get it into the living room. Inflatables are the wave of the future. You could put your whole house in the trunk of your car. My kind of deal.

Now, if I could find the coffee pot or the wine. Makes no difference to me at this point.
